Been with pm for over 5 years (at least) never had a problem until last month I got a text saying I had used 75% of my data, 2 days later 100% of my data, my new month rolled over no data used up contacted support they told me Yes indeed I had used all my data, the 16th of November at 12 at 12:30 am, sleeping at that time, service told me it was my problem, and gave me a list of things to do, which most of them I did, They generously told me they would reset just one time, that was on the 25 of November, great. Next day I get a message 75% of my dTata is used, and then the next message 100% so now again I have no data, So instead of buying more data I change the plan to 1G to 3G, and my data was reset.
My question is In over 5 years I have never run out of data or even got an alert. About 2-3 months ago I changed plans as the plan I had went up in price, no notification and when they changed the rewards and a bunch of other stuff. Do you think it was the change in plans? Any other reasons why I am losing data, the data has gone missing while at home where I use the wifi,
I don't understand maybe some one can help me out, or suggest another option, another carrier,
Thanks
Jackie

@Jackie_kelleher When you swipe down from the top of the phone you would usually get a "control centre" or shortcuts to various settings depending what phone you have. There you can just make one tap to toggle cellular data off or on without going into Settings each time. When I had a plan with a small amount of data I would just keep data toggled off except when I left the house, or sometimes even then unless I was expecting a message that required data to be on, Regular text messages (SMS) will still work without data turned on and of course so do phone calls.

@Jackie_kelleher Yea you’re not the first to have this experience lately . All I can think is that when data first became a thing 1GB was plenty it was almost unheard of anyone having more then 3GB but with phones becoming more advanced with higher resolution pictures and video data gets consumed faster then before . And now the pendulum has swung they other way where carriers offer more data then most people even need to keep them laying $30-$40 and more each month to accommodate the rise in cellular data usage . But at the same time it’s little disheartening to have such extreme differences in usages when your usage patterns haven’t changed from 5 years ago and yet your phone and apps are requiring more and more data to keep pace with your typical routine. I don’t want to suggest you spend more but if you look in your account I think you might see 10GB plan for $25 that should give you a good buffer with data allowance going forward .with out breaking the bank . But of course throwing money at a problem isn’t always the best solution, but it’s that or being more diligent when away from wifi and using phone settings to mitigate data usage

Clear the cache on your browser before login to your account online. PM updates your data usage twice a day. Around noon and around midnight.
The monthly roll-over is from the More is Merrier. Once it is used up…that is it.
I normally put my phone on Airplane mode to prevent and background updates while I am sleeping. When I disable Airplane mode in the morning.

Public Mobile generally track the usage well
did you check the usage tracker on your phone? If you have Android, just change the start date to match your current PM cycle start date and you can tell how much data you used. But if you have iPhone, you can't tell the usage unless you reset statistics. Maybe reset it today and start tracking it from now

@Jackie_kelleher If you have iPhone turn off wifi assist , with it on your phone can still use cell data . To be even safer just turn off cellular data when at home in wifi and just turn it on when you need it . You might best to turn off automatic updates and only update apps over wifi . Having cellular data off will help prevent rouge apps in the back round updating like “u face” or news apps also when you do t even realize it’s using data
