I cancelled my account as I was boarding my plane to deploy to the Middle East. After I returned my credit score showed an outstanding amount in collections from Public Mobile. I have never received a call back after trying to rectify the problem. There is no activity on the account because I was serving on the other side of the world. This is the only demerit on my credit score and has caused me financial damage.

My suggestion is to take this up further with the collection company. As others have said, this is a prepaid service...once your current plan expires you have to MANUALLY pay as you said you didn't use a credit card. You must have used vouchers of some sort. Once your 30 day plan reaches 30 days...you either manually renew or the plan Expires...after 90 days it closes down for good.
Perhaps someone from the VA can assist in an investigation...please keep us posted as we've never heard of anything like this. It sounds a bit scam-ish to most of us.
Thanks for your valuable service...Welcome Home.

Again, thank you for your service.
This is simply not possible. This is a prepaid service. If you don't pay, you don't get service. It's easy for them because they just turn off the service. After 90 days the account is closed.
I might suggest that your identity is compromised. But still Public Mobile would not go to collections.

I don't have credit cards and never used one on Public Mobile.

Tell it to Public Mobile.

It's a shame he did a hit and run here. One complaint and disappear. I was interested in finding out what really happened.

It actually is possible to owe Public Mobile money. It just isn't very likely. If a service has been used but a payment is disputed on the end of the card issuer, the person who used the service would owe Public Mobile for the services used. However, when it comes to the credit score part, thay shouldn't have happened since your identity was never verified by Public Mobile.

@bgamblen As already mentioned Pubic Mobile is strictly a prepaid provider so if payment is not made then your service simply stops working and after 90 days your account is terminated.
Are you sure it's from Public Mobile and not your credit card company? If you did not properly remove your credit card from your account is it possible that you were still getting charged?

@bgamblen unfortunately because you were gone for so long and the payment actually ended up going to collections. it'll be harder to have this issue resolved. I'm sorry for your misfortune and I've heard of this happening to other people.
your best option would be to make complaint to the CCTS

@Anonymous As this is an unusual (and interesting) issue, hopefully the OP returns with more info lol.

He also talks about not receiving a "call back". From who? Who did he call? You can't call PM.
Well...y'know...interpretations eh. He could be meaning "caused" by Public Mobile. But we haven't heard from him yet so we can only wait and see.

So I have a second thought.
How did you cancel service?
There's an infrequent bug in the system where accounts continue getting charged. That goes to your credit card. Your credit card wants to be paid. You're out of country not dealing with bills. You go into arrears.
Is that what happened?
08-12-2020 04:45 PM
@bgamblen I'm with @Anonymous on this. PM is pre paid. No pay, no service. Period. No collections, no hit on your credit score, nothing, NADA.

Thank you for your service.
You're looking at the wrong place though. This place has no bearing on ones credit. Public Mobile would do no such thing. This is prepaid. You don't pay, that's that.
