Cellular service stopped working, now shows different SIM number under account

I woke up to find my cellular service was no longer working. When I logged into my self service account to investigate I could find nothing out of the ordinary except that the final digits on the SIM card did not match the sim card I have. I went through the steps to switch my SIM card number back to the one on the card that I have, but it says that it is not valid or already in use. I am going to purchase a new card and try transferring to that, but what other steps can I take? Can I not just use the SIM card I already have to associate back to my account?

 

I have de-activate my service temporarily as someone has clearly compromised my account, but how to I use a SIM pin code activation lock etc. to prevent this?

@PublicMobile567  If you want to use the same sim then you need to submit a ticket to Public Mobile inform them that you were sim jacked and ask them to re-instate you sim account number. Also very important to secure all your important accounts (bank, credit card and online).

Change your security questions

Change the name (misspell)

Contact mods with 'account theft' in subject line

They can revert charges you don't need new sim

Ask them to also change your email (user id for selfserve) you can use your email aliases

@PublicMobile567 @Contact your bank's and secure your bank accounts. One of the main reason for sim swapping is to access bank accounts linked with 2fa

Unfortunately, once you change your sim in your account then you won't be able to reuse your previous sim.
