Cannot Receive MMS from a Certain Number

Cheetah24

Hi everyone,

My public mobile plan is working fine and so far I haven't encountered any issue. However recently a friend of mine told me that she is unable to send MMS/Picture messages to me. I told her to try sending MMS to any other person and it works for her; she cannot send MMS to me only it seems.

I tried sending her MMS and she says she doesn't recieve them as well. I tested whether I could send MMS to anybody else and it seem everyone else recieves my MMS and also they can send me MMS.

So the gist of the problem is that there's one person in my contact list who cannot send MMS to me nor can I send her MMS.

Have you guys encountered a problem like this before? Let me know any suggessions.

Thank you 🙂

I suppose probably after she turned on data it took a while for the phone to realize that data is on or something; anyhoo the problem is now solved.

Thanks for all your help 🙂

Glad to see the issue resolved.  The best way forward when using wifi is to just let it take priority over wireless data without turning wireless data off.  If wireless data is turned off, it is easy to forget to turn it back on later when off of wifi.  I know sometimes there can be "wireless data leakage" when on wifi, but this is a very limited issue.

@Cheetah24Not sure if you have the capability, but if you both have a different phone to try / borrow you could try temporarilty putting your sim cards in another phone to test. That would ensure 100% it has nothing to do wiht your phones but if another messenger app / disable imessage doesn't help on top of all the other attempts there is likely little you can do at your phone level, there might be some sort of glitch / routing problem at a network level, it might then be time to take advantage of your friends customer support that they can call and complain about and move onto the back office / level 2 tech support and have them trace the message and see if / where it gets stuck.

@will13am: I am using Google Messaging and she's using iMessages. Let me try out with a different messaging app on my end.

She restarted her phone and deleted the conversation thread as you guys have suggested and it still didn't work. I just told her to do the iMessage enable disable thing. We will see if that works. 🙂

@Cheetah24, can you include trying a different messaging app in the mix?  Right now, there is roll out of RCS and I am wondering if such a major platform change may cause weird and wonderful behavior.  On android, I think the google messaging app is top shelf.  It receives regular updates.

 @Cheetah24   Not sure if this is able to help but this is another possible solution (not mine, off a forum)

"Disable iMessage

If the recipient or sender has used or is currently using an iPhone, it can cause problems for Android users since the iPhone utilizes the iMessage network. Have the iPhone user disable iMessage by going to “Settings” > “Messages” and setting “iMessage” to “Off“.

In some cases, the iPhone user will need to perform these steps:"

@meocon, @RobertQc: Thanks both for your suggessions. I'll try each of these tomorrow and will write back. 🙂

@Cheetah24 so maybe on her end not your. You can ask her try to reboot her phone. If she's using iOS like I said make sure she's not blocking you 🙂 she can try to reset the network settings as well.

@meocon: No she did not. She isn't using an Android phone so this doesn't apply to her. I will try this as well on my phone though, but I doubt it since we both can send MMS to everyone else.

@RobertQc: We can send SMS perfectly. I have tried restarting the phone without effect.

I will try out the re-adding to contact lists and deleting the conversation. 🙂

@Cheetah24

Proabably sounds crazy, but try adding a 1, or removing the 1 from each contact. This works for a lot of other people

Also delete your old history / conversation (if you have any)

@Cheetah24 did she change her phone or anything? I found something about fixing MMS problem http://smallbusiness.chron.com/mms-problems-android-35796.html hope this can give you some ideas to fix that.

@Cheetah24

Can you send regular SMS to each other? There are many other people complaining about a similar problem on the internet, almost every post I read somehow the number gets added to a block list under message settings. This may not be the case but worth looking into on each handset.

Also have read a possible solution is to delete each others contacts and re-add them. Possibly a formatting error in the contact details.

And of course the usual.... Restart your phone.

@meocon: I am using an Android phone and she isn't blocked. She was able to send MMS until last week or so. This started happening this week, and to my knowledge there isn't anything that I changed in my phone. 😞

@Cheetah24 make sure you don't block them 🙂 if you're using iOS click on small "i" beside your friend number to see it has been blocked this caller or not.

@RobertQc: This is impossible as they have verified that they cannot send or receive MMS from/to me and me alone; which I have stated in my original post. I had this initial doubt so I asked them to verify. 🙂

MMS requires data, a firewall by default does not allow any traffic, it might be they have not allowed the messaging app to use data
