@CS_Agent I understand that I can't transfer my number because I shut down my fido account a few days back, but I acn't find the option to select a different number either.

@Ad-ad90 When activating your sim on the PM app after your pay , you will have option to choose a new number

@Ad-ad90 - If you, not Public Mobile, closed your Fido account, then your phone number is permanently lost.
But there may be a chance, contact Fido about the situation. https://www.fido.ca/contact
You will still have to set up a temporary line with Fido to keep your number. After 90 days of cancelling your Fido service you will lose your phone number in the large phone number pool.

@Ad-ad90 yes, your previous account must be active to port. You can contact them to see if they are willing to reopen the account for a few days for you to port over.
If no, once you download the Public Mobile App app it gives you the ability to choose a new number at activation.
