Can't receive SMS texts from Twitter

foxchoir

I switched from VM to PM around Nov 1st 2019.  Since that time i've been unable to receive twitter sms messages.  I'd really like this fixed.  Browsing through the community chat it appears as though a moderator might have to do something.

Thanks

So interestingly when you ask SIMon about supported SMS short codes, it directs you to this old community topic:

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Plans-Add-Ons/What-short-codes-are-supported-by-Publi...

Interestingly twitter is on the list. But I proceeded to inquire with the mods to get confirmation if twitter's 21212 short code is suppost to work on Public Mobile or not, and here was the response:

Hi Nezgar,

Thank you very much for your reply.

I carefully investigated that information with our support department and it seems that not all of the shortcodes are supported by public mobile.

Since we only offer prepaid services, We strictly allow the use of some of them as those that are shared on the list ( https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Plans-Add-Ons/What-short-codes-are-supported-by-Publi...).

we only give unlimited access to SMS and MMS.

I hope this helps! Please do not hesitate to let me know if any questions arise, as I remain at your disposal for any future inquiry.

Kind Regards!

So there you have it folks...  Knowing it also does not work for Koodo from my testing I'd be interested to know if someone on a full Telus plan could try. (Just send the word "HELP" to 21212 to test)

Further testing here... from a Koodo line texting to 21212 also no response. From a Public mobile line that was NOT ported from another carrier, also no response.

Apparently this has been this way since at least 2016, according to this post:

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Getting-Started/Text-messages-from-Twitter/m-p/61154/...

Seems to be a Telus wide block.

Samsung Galaxy S7.  Like I said though, I've done nothing other than changing my SIM to Public.  All my SMS messages came through before and my settings remain the same on my phone and on Twitter.

According to Twitter's "About supported mobile carriers" page, the Canadian shortcode is 21212.

  • I tested sending a "HELP" message to that shortcode from my Public Mobile account, and I get no response too. (And my number was ported from Rogers)
  • If I send the same message from a SaskTel phone, I get a response OK.
  • If I send the same message from a Rogers phone, I get a response OK.

It would seem that Public Mobile is blocking or does not support that shortcode... Anyone else able to test with other carriers, especially Telus or Koodo?

@foxchoir What Samsung model? Thanks.

Should have mentioned I have a Samsung and that none of my settings were changed since my switch to Public.

This isn't a bad idea to try. Howver, this was already suggested more than 10 hours earlier.

@foxchoir What's the make and model of your phone ? If it's an iPhone, Sms messages must be enabled to receive them. Thanks.
