As mentioned already, don't leave it too long. Someone was here just a week or two ago that forgot and went just past 90 days and they wanted to know how to get their number back. Pretty close to impossible....

If you have autopay setup, you can remove it. You have up to 90 days to make a payment. After 90 days your account gets deactivated.
If you miss a payment due date, your account will be put into a suspended state, meaning you will be unable to use your phone services. You will have up to 90 days to make a payment, and after doing so your payment cycle with restart and your service will resume. @holden2021 Yes you can suspend your phone service for upto 90 days (don't pay at renewal by removing your CC if any) before the account and number would be deactivated, however, make sure to make a payment before the 90 day suspension ends, recommended to pay around 85/86th day to not lose your number and then can repeat that process after the next payment becomes due.
If you have a balance in account to cover your renewal then you need to select the Plans/Add-on tab, then select Phone Lost/Stolen and suspend service. This will stop your account being renewed and allow for the account to be suspended for 90 days.

When your most recent renewal expires you have 90 days to renew again. After that, your account is closed for good...you'd need a new sim to start a new account.
How long do you figure to be gone from Canada ?
