Calls made in my name

Hello

I am currently abroad but retained my number on the lowest possible value plan. However, I see a lot of calls made to: 1 (226) 580-4001 from my number. What on earth is this number and how is it someone is using my number to call. Also, the usage is zero which means no call minutes used nor data. Can a kind soul on the forum or (heavens hoping) from Public Mobile support please explain this.

Thanks

Ahsan

There was a thread a while back from someone saying they were charged minutes for checking voicemail from another number.   I don't believe I was charged for that when I was on the $15 plan but did something change recently?  I don't see anything about checking from another number being free in the voicemail FAQ, I thought it used to be stated somewhere.

Agree @Chalupa_Batman !!!   However, I do not see the CTRC or CCTS offshoot taking this stand with the no-frills plans.

One way to avoid this is to call your own number from another device (with minutes included) press the star key to the left of the zero when the announcement begins, enter your voicemail password, and listen to your messages, deleting or retaining them as required.

Just to add to @HALIMACS and @kb_mv comments, they are right. This is Public Mobile's voicemail number. You will not be charged anything if your call goes to voicemail. However, when YOU call your voicemail, it will use minutes if you are on the $15 plan. But if you're on the $25 or up with unlimited calling, I wouldn't even worry about it. Although, and the CRTC needs to stop this practice and slap the hands of ALL Canadian carriers for doing this. Carriers should NOT be allowed to offer voicemail but charge you time to call it. That is unacceptable on every level!!

@ahsan_nothappy

That number is the voicemail routing number.

When someone calls your number, the call is routed through to those numbers to the local voice mail server in your region.

No worries, they are not calls made from your device.

EDIT:  you've also correctly noted that these calls do not count against any calling allotment (minutes) one may have such as with the $15 plan which has limited outgoing calling minutes.
