I have a friend  who wants to join public mobile but they live in Canada  and the usa throughout  the year. The $50 plan only covers  calls while in canada right ?,i was reading posts from 2019 talking about a $60 plan that allows calls abf texts while in the usa but i dont see that plan anymore ? What are her options?

Before I go all fanboi on the place...what other providers allow keeping a plan at the previous price and features after they no longer offer it?

Yes I know about the brouhaha about the fall 2016 plan. I'm still on the $10 plan. But do other providers do the same thing?

@jyb

Lucky you! You snapped up that now grandfathered plan and didn't waver.....if pm offers it again it will be a very popular choice for frequent US travellers. Check in monthly to the community to see if any new plans will fit your needs.

The $60 plan that includes U.S. roaming was only offered once and hasn't been since. You'll have to keep checking back with the Public Mobile page for any changes to the offerings.

One of the best options for your friend would be to consider a dual sim phone the next time they are in the market for a new phone. The Umidigi A9 ( among others) are excellent value priced phones that can provide this convenience. Then a combined public mobile/mint mobile service wiil accomodate their needs in an affordable way. Or they can also consider a portable hotspot with fongo, textnow, whatsapp......

@AnonymousI had Text Now but too many ads unless you pay for no ads.

Yeah it's a cluttered mess. I'm not interested in paying a subscription. I'm fine to buy the odd app here and there but not a continuing expense. But for the extremely little use I do with it, I'm fine with it.

There is also WhatsApp with wifi.

 @BKNS27 : Yes. Thank you. I know. Amongst others. I did say "like". 🙂 I happened to choose TextNow. Turns out they're Canadian too.

 @mapamapa32 : Asking for a friend? 🙂 As you found that plan only existed for a short time. So the only method here is to use the roaming add-ons. But that would get cost prohibitive in a hurry.

Another option is to use "voip" apps like TextNow that can also do voice. Connect to the myriad of free wifi points and you have talk and text for nothing.

Another option is simply to get local service.

PM only offers 10 day roaming add-ons which expire after 10 days from purchase.  If they are in the US for longer periods, they maybe better off to purchase a local sim or use mintmobile.com.

$50 plan is for calls made in Canada. Only the current plans are displayed. There is a US add on but that would get pricey.

There a no currently offered plans that inlcude roaming (including making or receiving calls while in the U.S.). There are roaming add-ons available but it might be cheaper to get a phone number from a U.S. carrier if usage there is going to be a regular thing.
