I am on vacation in Mexico and got the new Can-US-Mex phone plan.
Everything worked great, data, messaging, receiving phone calls, but I couldn’t make a call out.
I figured it out and thought I would post it here in case someone else needed to know. You need to dial as follows:
* - 1 - xxx-xxx-xxxx
the * is the key.

Our phone connected to TelCel. We have to dial 0 0 1 (area code) (phone number). 001 xxx xxx-xxxx to call from Playa del Carmen area to Canada.

I just left it on auto, and let it decide what was the best. Mostly it connected to Telcel.
Sometimes, you have to turn it onto airplane mode for 30 seconds and then back to regular mode if you are haveing a slow data connection. But I have to do that everywhere.

Thanks for sharing this! I had the same issue when I was in Mexico and couldn’t figure out why outgoing calls weren’t working. Adding the * at the beginning makes all the difference. Hopefully, this helps others who are having the same issue. Appreciate you posting this!

usually Telcel but AT&T can work just as well.

I guess you have some great time there 🙂
yes, it is a bit confusing how to make calls back to Canada, there are different ways but seems like not all ways work for everyone. thanks for testing it out
and which carrier you are connected to? Other than T-Mobile and Telcel, any 3rd or 4th one?

I'm in Mx right now with a Public Mobile Canada/US/Mx plan. I dial +1 area code and number.

hi @Rae89
yes, someone said calling by 1-area code +phone number is the way
but someone else also said this work for them:
00 + 1 + area code + phone number
