My Pixel 3a XL's sound is disappointing. With the exception of one phone (HTC One M9), all phones I've had have sucked. But the HTC One M9 was excellent. I use it at the gym but it's life is approaching it's end.
So long question short (I know. Too late),. what's a newish mid-tier phone that has great sound?

I bought to C type adapters from Amazon for $8.99.
12-06-2021 12:26 PM
BTW....the JBL Endurance Run headphones we discussed are currently on clearance at sport chek for $14.88. Maybe they have them in stock in your area. They sound pretty awesome on my Google Pixel 3 using a C type adapter for the headphones. Listening to Bobby Ramone on YouTube.

@darlicious great idea. Glad I thought of it😆
I have done that but the hiccups are
Feels like it should be easier than it is.
I did listen to the A52 and the sound was leaps and bounds superior to the Pixel 3aXL.

Why don't you go to a retailer with display models with your current (or borrow) wired and Bluetooth headphones and test the sound in variety of the phones you are interested in with headphones you are likely to use. Bring a "C" type adapter for phones without a headphone jack. If you pick the right retailer you can test both phones and headphones at the same time. The salesperson doesn't need to know you won't in the end be signing a 2 year contract. But take their business card and tell them you want to sleep on it.

@bluejaywpg sorry for the confusion. I started some "side chatter" that wasn't on topic, so I moved that part of the thread out to The Lounge area, which is what you saw and replied to. I have now moved your reply into the main thread (in the Phones & Hardware area), so you're now back in context of the original discussion. Please feel free to jump in as you had originally planned.

Lol...youre right about that it's been 2 1/2 months since you first started this thread. I am pretty sure I bought about 5 new pairs since then. I have a couple of nice pairs of JBL sport wired headphones if you want just pm me....they were a heck of a deal!
11-29-2021 05:33 PM
I haven't got any.

Those headphones look really cool! You will have to post about how well they work after you go for your first swim.

I did'nt realize how long it's been since I've been on here. So what did finally decide on?

I am definitely a fan of the JBL's. I have compared them to several beats which are good but can be pricey and are not discounted very often. More bang for your buck with JBL.

Thank you. I actually am not a fan of this style.

I almost forgot to post this for these Sony's....$150 off for $99!!
11-11-2021 06:00 PM
If you do any sports with a helmet snap these up....over $100 off their original price. I have the wired version and just bought to pairs of the Bluetooth version. They have the Rhinos heavily discounted at $17.88 but currently OOS. Keep checking back they may come back in stock (usually only one pair) that is if I dont scoop them up....worth paying for shipping if you don't have more than $99 in your cart.
1% rakuten (+$30 referral credit?), 4% cdn tire money+offers, 10% off email coupon, 0% 24 month financing available for $150+ orders
Also on sale $21.99 black Chuck Taylor's, backpacks (adidas+dakine) and bags $4.88+, fan gear ($3.88 select NFL ball caps), go thru more clearance items for deals.
My Xmas shopping is pretty much done!!🎁😃🎁

There was none near me but I solved that issue by ordering two for free shipping. 1 under the tree for the bf and 1 for me! Thank you!!

@darlicious , did you see they're now on sale? If you have trouble snagging them let me know and I'll see if available at my nearby LD. If so from there we'll get 'em to you.

While I use headphones for a variety of activities the main one has been cycling so I prefer ones that are not noise cancelling so I can still hear traffic to save my life but not enough to distract from the tunes. In late fall, winter and early spring I always had to wear a polar fleece "head band" to protect my ears from the elements and wind that can easily cause earache....not pleasant but the rhinos are perfect built specifically for outdoor activities in any weather and have eliminated the need for the extra ear coverage.
A quality over the ear headphone can deliver fantastic enveloping sound. Trust me I have popped next door to visit my neighbour and have scared the daylights out of him doing dishes with his Skull Candy Hesh 3 headphones on because he can't hear anything but his tunes. Given the weather we can get on the wet coast there may only be a couple of months a year that they are too hot for the weather. Of course ear buds are convenient and easier to store in a jacket pocket or fanny pack.
Note: The bf loved his SKH3's but he destroyed his in 6 weeks. I sold the back up pair to my neighbour knowing they would last far longer and the deal I passed on to him bought two pairs of rhinos for me and the bf.
I am seriously considering the JBL Dive's...having tunes while swimming and any other water sports where more than a dunk is asking for trouble is amazing. With 7 hours of play time and its own mp3 player for that price may be more than I can resist!

@darlicious Wow. Unique!
As for the other JBL ones, I've never been nuts about the "cover" the ear ones. Always thought the sound was too low.
BUT with wireless powering themselves Maybe I should revisit.
@srlawren I'm in the market for 3 things for Black Friday. New Phone, Chromebook, and headphones.
I'll be happy with 2 out of 3 deals.
A little tip I learned from a BestBuy employee is that upcoming Black Friday deals are "released" on Fridays. FYI.

How cool are these?!! I might have to get them! 100 lengths of the pool no problem with another 175 songs to go.....

These are currently OOS but you never know they may restock before the sale ends on November 20th.
11-08-2021 05:02 PM
@rossputin no worries. The good thing too is that we are in or nearly in Black Friday/Pre-Christmas sale season. It's a good time to want something new but with the luxury of time to watch for a good sale.

I should add: I personally use these https://www.amazon.ca/Bose-SoundSport-Wireless-Headphones-Black/dp/B01L7PSJFO/ref=sr_1_1?keywords=bo... at the gym and absolutely love them for it. They are getting long in the tooth but hold up really well. They stay in your ears well due to the wings and I find the oval, shallow insertion tips super comfortable. As a result though you do get poor sound isolation and they have no noise cancellation tech so if you need to use in noisy environments they aren't great, but I would imagine most hikes are quiet and serene. They have very engaging and bass-heavy (but never bloated nor masking) sound that's well suited to exercising or physical activities. And they have the wire behind like you asked for.

@rossputin I haven't looked at all @darlicious's recommendations (a bit busy this morning sorry) but from a quick look at Sony's site, I'm going to guess that these are probably the closest equivalent to yours but using Bluetooth and having a wire that runs behind your head:
https://www.sony.ca/en/electronics/in-ear-headphones/mdr-xb50bs#product_details_default
(for pricing, check other sources like Amazon, you may see cheaper, guessing)
Some others you may want to consider could include:
https://www.sony.ca/en/electronics/in-ear-headphones/wi-c200
https://www.sony.ca/en/electronics/in-ear-headphones/wi-c310
https://www.sony.ca/en/electronics/in-ear-headphones/wi-sp510
https://www.sony.ca/en/electronics/in-ear-headphones/wi-sp600n
The last two are in the "Sport" segment and may (or may not, I didn't look in detail) provide better ruggedness/weatherproofing for your hikes.
11-07-2021 11:28 PM
I haven't tried any of these but worth a look....
I have not tried these but I have two of their Bluetooth mini speakers that pair together and produce fantastic sound.
Note:
I forgot to mention in my last post that rakuten is 1% rebate and if you are already not a member there is a $30 referral credit for your first purchase over $30. Sport chek also has 4% back in cdn tire money when using your triangle card or m/c along with any other offers you may have in your triangle app.
