Just wondering what the purpose of the badges are?

not really useful. Badges is just a features that come with the software the community uses

the only one that might be useful is the monthly % badge.  It will show you how well you did last month.  If you get one, you are getting the community rewards.  These are the badge you want and the amount of rewards you will get

@Jackie_kelleher - To show how many Bravos and Accepted solutions the user got. Mayor is the highest and New In Town is the lowest rank.

The badges are to resemble that you earned this in the community and that may get you trusted.

That is just my opinion with that.
