I help out a number of my friends and family with their public mobile phone management. This month four (4) out of 20 people on autopay had it fail and then Public suspended service. What's happening ? Each person had a different payment credit card, all Visa credit cards.
Attempting to do a manual pay with the credit card on file failed. (it says this can happen if too many attempts to pay)
It only worked if I completely changed the credit card on file and then did a manual payment.
Then make sure autopay is still registered or re-register autopay.
In one case, I did the manual pay with the new card, then the system did a duplicate charge and autopaid it with the new card!
How can this be avoided ? Do master card credit cards work better than Visa with Public ?
Is there a way to get the payment processed on the credit card on file ?
thanks

You can enabling the AutoPay using the existing CC on file.
There were cases where the AutoPay was turned off.

This is the best and most hassle free way to avoid those autopay/renewal issues.

Autopay failures do happen. To prevent them in the future you can always add a payment to Available Funds before your renewal date. The money will come out of Available Funds on renewal date and you still get the autopay bonuses.

If those people had renewal day around April 1st, PM had big autopay outage then.
Remedy would be to manually pay and restart service.
PM has no preference regarding credit card type but autopay could fail at random times.
But if restarting service fails few times, do not try to change credit card and attempt payment multiple times as you might trigger fraud lock on your CC.
Last resort is to contact agent to help you out.
