This is because the call really is long distance (except in some strange cases when Public Mobile only thinks that it is).  However, Public Mobile's plans include long distance at least in that province (and sometimes to the rest of Canada or U.S. depending on the plan).  Ignore the message or dial the 1 before the outgoing call's area code.  Public has no system in place to charge anything for an individual call.

Ok, thanks.

@RossN you beat me to it, lol.

And since PM is a prepaid plan you won't be charged for any calls. If it happens to be US say, it just won't work.

So that's not extra charge?

@Yongyu hi do not worry about any extra charges for long distance that's the beauty of a pre paid account no surprises!!

It may just be an automated system recording you're hearing.  But you won't be charged anything extra if you have Canada wide minutes.
