I purchased 2 identical 4G LTE capable phones less than 4 months ago. Both of them are have the preferred network set to 4G and are VoLTE compatible. Each of them are using Public Mobile SIM cards for years and display "LTE" as the network being used for phone calls.
I'm getting Public Mobile messages on both phones that I need to change to a 4G/5G device or be charged an extra $5 a month.
I went to a Telus/Koodo store and explained my situation. They checked out my phones and indicated both would work with the Koodo network. They couldn't tell me why that wouldn't be the case with Public Mobile.
I then went to a Rogers dealer and after checking out my phones they indicated their Chatr 4G plans would work at competitive pricing to my current supplier.

Hi Chalupa_Batman, I thank you so much for your reply.
The brand name of the phones is UMIDIGI purchased from Amazon. It's the same brand as I, some friends and family members have been using for over 9 years as an alternative to major brand name products at more than three times the cost. Unfortunately the company that supplies the UMIDIGI phones closed shop about a month ago and wasn't around to answer my query about VoLTE compatibility of the brand.
I ran the PM VoLTE checker as you and others suggested and unsurprisingly it indicated the phone as being incompatible.
Your indication that PM's VoLTE checker is only a guide and not always accurate raises the question of PM considering the phone incompatible simply because its not on their list of serviceable products regardless of product's actual VoLTE capability.
I asked the in-store staff of both Telus and Rogers, in light of the 3G network shut down if my phone had to be VoLTE compatible to use their services. The answer from a total of seven staff including one tech rep was that only a minimum of 4G network communications capability is required which your phone is setup to handle as proved by the online IMEI test which we ran.
After I indicated I was experiencing poor cell reception where I lived, I appreciated the honesty of the Telus rep when he said that he would not sell me any Telus products because of the area I was in was notorious for bad reception over their 3G network and it would become even worse with 4G transmission. He indicated he knew first hand because he used to live in my area, that Rogers Chatr could provide a workable solution.
So Chatr here I come. For around 30 bucks I can test it out with with an older phone for a while. If it works I’ll switch over my two Telus accounts to Chatr using my four month old phones for as long as they last. If it doesn’t I’ll consider settling for a land line and a flip phone to provide me with a simpler less frustrating life.
Again thank you and all others who responded with your support.

As mentioned, you really need to check your IME on the VOLTE PM checker.
International phones and phones from smaller mobile manufacturers are often not VOLTE compatible with PM network.
Public mobile VoLTE phone compatibility list has fewer phones than Telus and Koodo, even though on the same network. Public mobile introduced VoLTE in 2022 (much later than Telus and Koodo) and that is the major reason why VoLTE compatibility list is different.

Well @Bhar_None It sure would help if you actually told us what phones they are.
You CAN check the VoLTE checker to see if they are compatible with PM.
To confirm if your phone will work with Public Mobile, please see this link. At the bottom of the page, you can insert your IMEI number and the system will advise you if it will work with Public Mobile.

Use Public Mobile's VoLTE checker as a guide only, as results are not always 100% accurate.
