Okay, so I think Public Mobile is trying to increase security and help prevent fraudulent SIM swapping - great!
But do they have to take away the visibility of the last 4 digits of the SIM card on our Self Serve account?
I know these digits by heart and would like to be able to see them when I want to.
I would prefer not going to the Moderators to confirm it.

@gpixel : Say it ain't so! Wasn't it your idea to need to enter a PIN when changing SIM? I like it. I also like esjlivs saying that we should at be able to see it. But as for your post yeah that would preclude then being able to use it for authentication. But wouldn't that be a hassle? Turn off the phone (unless it can hot-swap), extract the SIM, use binoculars to read the numbers 🙂 , and report back. Then put it all back together.

@HALIMACS et al PM is like an old favourite sweater. Feels good most of the time but even cursory scrutiny reveals an eyesore. Some look really easy to fix but end up stretching the fabric so tense it scratches your neck, which you fix by adding a piece of soft cloth, but its stiching causes the waitband to ride up, ...... Thankfully though it's cheap so we're (sort of) happy. 🙈

@esjliv lucky for you. I don't know mine but lucky for me, I don't throw away lots of stuff. lol I still have the little brochure that the PM sim card came with, so I don't have to take my sim card out just to see my sc#
Anyway, now if a customer seems to be sim jacked or if there is a slight chance, we can no longer say check the last 4-digit number of your sim card if matched with that in self serve account. This means that we just say CONTACT THE MODS.
PM is trying to make things easier for the community to solve. Problem? Contact mods.
Porting problem? call this number
Soon there will be no need for the community. oh that's sad 🤔

I hope pm is going to use this an authentication method. because without it the perpetrator still has the personal info. but they won't have the last 4 digits of the sim to verify to mods. I think that will be their best defense against sim changes

@NDesai wrote:@esjliv I asked them the exact same question. Unfortunately, there is no way for them to show the last 4 digits of the current sim card. However, sim swap fraud is very less likely to occur if this feature is not available to anyone.
We were pretty much on the POST button simultaneously there, @NDesai
So I've never used the "Change Sim" function before so I can't attest to what the screens would have looked like - there's absolutely no functionality within that field to simply allow users to just view their SIM card?
I cannot believe it cannot be done.

Here's my 2 cents worth.
Public Mobile has disabled the Change Sim feature to circumvent any Sim Swapping. Is it a failsafe - probably not. Does it make it more secure - time will tell.
Your point is well taken. Why not allow users to view the last 4 digits of the SIM card registered to the account?
I suspect the answer is easy (but even more frustrating). Probably because their "Change Sim" function was built to do just that - change a SIM card. Not just "view" the SIM card.
So, naturally, one would hope they'll amend the field to at least allow users to be able to view their SIM card number so they can be certain if they wake up one morning with no service (and it's not a failed auto-pay), that they can quickly check to see if they've been SIM-swapped.

They did just not very well. Or as @Anonymous put it to me..."Where were you yesterday?"

@esjliv...
seems to be something new. Wish they would inform us when these changes are initiated.
edit....looks like they did inform us.
@darlicious...thanks for the info. 🤠
