Public Mobile doesn't work with wifi calling so shifting to use 4G on phone calls shouldn't make any diff. Going forward, we need VoLTE capable cellphones that are recognized with Public Mobile...not all are.

@Sansan sent you a link to some info and at the bottom there's a device checker. If it 's not compatible, it'll likely have troubles when the 3G is retired in Manitoba and other parts of the country later on. (I think most non-compatible cellphones in parts of Manitoba have already shown to be un-usable)

The phone is registered in their system as not been compatible,  so im sure that they will not be able to monitor if you use it this month, not use next month etc to determine if they will change you or not.

As long as it's registered in their system it should charge the fee.

The fee will be charged until you change phones or leave them. Once March 2027 comes ,they will not allow phone calls with the same phone.

Data and text messages will not be affected.

I am using MOTO  E40. If I do not make call, will it be ok? How about Text message?

You're going to have to upgrade to a newer cellphone unfortunately.

@OOlivia

the added $5 has to do with the cell you're currently using. Here's some reading about the shutdown of 3G...particularly in Manitoba and will spread to the other provinces soon.

Check this post. You can use the IMEI to check your phone.

You are using 4g for data and browsing. The 3G is for making and receiving calls.

What phone do you have?

You will need to a phone that no longer relies on 3g for phone calls once the shutdown is complete in March 2027. They will continue to charge fee $5 untill you switch phones, switch providers or the shutdown.
