Answer |
How long will this plan be in market? |
This is a limited time offer and is subject to change without notice. Please refer to Public Mobile’s Service Terms. Please note that the promotion will not be honoured after it has ended. This includes SIM cards that have been purchased online, are in-transit and not yet activated. |
Will I keep the same plan forever? Will my plan change? |
Please refer to our Terms of Service for more information about our plans. |
I am an existing customer. What is the difference between changing my plan immediately and changing my plan on the next renewal date? |
When changing your plan, you have 2 options: (1) change your plan immediately or (2) change on your next renewal date.
Here is the difference:
Changing your plan immediately... You may choose to change your plan immediately if you have used all or most of your services, if your account is suspended and you would like a different plan, or if you would like to get started right away on the new plan. Here are some things you should know about this option: ● There must be enough funds in your account to cover the full amount of the new plan. ● A new payment cycle starts when you activate your new plan. ● Your plan will not be prorated, which means that any days remaining in your current payment cycle will not be credited to your new plan. ● Due to system limitations, if your account is suspended, you will need to send a private message to our Moderator Team here to change your plan immediately. You will need to be signed in to the Community for the link to work. ● Any earned Rewards will be applied on your next renewal after the plan change.
Changing your plan at the next renewal date… On the other hand, you may choose to change your plan on your next renewal date because it allows you to use the services you have already paid for. We recommend this option so your money can go further. Here are some things you should know about this option: ● If you choose to change your plan on your next plan renewal date, the amount owed will be automatically updated. ● If you have AutoPay set up, the amount of your new plan will be charged on your payment due date. ● You can cancel a future-dated plan change at any time by clicking on the ‘Plans and Add-Ons’ tab and selecting ‘Cancel Order’. ● Any earned Rewards will be applied on your next renewal after the plan change. |
What happens if the “$60 UL Can/US Talk & Text 8.5GB Can 3G Data with AutoPay plus 2GB US Data Roaming” plan becomes unavailable before my next plan renewal date? |
If you chose to change your plan to “$60 UL Can/US Talk & Text 8.5GB Can 3G Data with AutoPay plus 2GB US Data Roaming” on the next renewal date and the request has been submitted successfully, you will still switch to “$60 unlimited Canada/US Talk & Text” even if the promotion ends before your renewal date occurs. |

It sounds like the carriers in those areas are getting more than a little greedy! Thanks.

Thanks for checking that out seems that companies with those exchanges are getting a little more than greedy!

You can't call those area code/prefixes using PM or roaming add-ons or plans.
is there a reason why? i'm curious. (i don't call US numbers)
It's because those prefixes belong to carriers which apparently has a right to charge a huge rate for transporting the incoming call. Similar to how it costs a lot to call the Canadian Tertories compare to other Canadian Numbers. Major Canadian cell providers and major Canadian Landline Providers just eat the High cost to call the terotories but most smaller companies charge a lot more to call the terotories. You get the Point?

So I went looking for my own curiosity. Mostly I don't care about those exchanges. But this was the original announcement made some time ago.
As I understand it, the phone company owners of exchanges charge other phone companies to call customers in their exchanges. Seems some skullduggery went on and many other providers (not just here) decided to just not let their customers call those exchanges as a hefty middle finger to them.
This Wikipedia article seems to describe the thing. It's called traffic pumping apparently.

It's not that the service does not work in those area codes. It just doesn't let you call those area codes with those prefixes.

What you saw were for you calling those area code/prefixes. Not that service would not be available.

Where ever there is AT&T and or T-Mobile coverage your phone will work.

@Garthk wrote:What if I need more than 2 GB of US data roaming? Also do you have plans that share data?
$20 for 1GB but you have to purchase it before it will work again. This roaming data will only work in U.S. and will expire in 10 days. This data can't be used in Canada.

I switched to this plan recently. When I look at my current plan it does not mention the 2 GB of US Data. Do I have it or not? That is why I switched plans.

09-01-2019 05:25 PM
@Poogzley from what I have read in this tread there's no limit for the talk and text, you could stay there for 6 months if you want! The only limit is the 2gb roaming data per 30 days. As for how long it's here nobody knows!
09-01-2019 05:19 PM
Is there a limitation on how much time I can spend roaming in the USA at no additional cost. I know that some companies like Fizz have a 3 billing cycle limit and then they will block you afterwards.
Also will be receiving a warning before this plan is removed from the market? I would like to switch to it just not right away and would like to wait as long as possible before switching as I would only need the roaming services as of January...

I have the 8G plan, and have no issues with speed. I love it. Really good value compared to other companies

As we just saw 2 Monday’s ago, plans can disappear at anytime. The entire plan builder was taken away (a stupid secession in my opinion) overnight in a system maintenance session.
lock in your plan change now if you want it for November. It’s about $120 a year more than your current $50 plan. If you can afford it, it’s a great deal as doing it with roaming addons to keep your plan active and usable would be much more expensive.
08-30-2019 05:26 PM
@anbil9 limited time offer, that's all it says so it could be gone tonight or in 3 months

@longder1 I'm not sure what to recommend, limited time only means they could pull it tomorrow. If your renewal is just in 3 weeks or so you could log in now and change it and set it on next renewal date to make sure you get it

Any guidance out there as to what is likely to happen?
Schedule the plan change for your next renewal. The day of (or before) your last day, remove the plan change if the $60 plan is still here. Then your $50 plan renews. The next day schedule for the $60 plan for the next renewal. etc each term. Hopefully in that 1 or 2 day span the plan doesn't drop.

You can choose if you want it to take place right away or wait for your next pay cycle.

Yes. It's like a two-country plan. A little less data while in the states but talk and text and back and forth both sides.

@Bevattna wrote:One final thought, my experience with data usage has been primarily focused on downloading to my phone, not uploading. PM's plans show download speeds, but there doesn't seem to be any mention of upload speeds.
Would be curious if anyone knows expected data upload speeds at PM and how they compare to Telus or Koodo.
Upload speed on 3g plan is also 3Mbps. It is much higher on full LTE plan.
