[NEW] Changes Coming to the Public Points Program

Public Mobile

Hi Community,

We’re making a few important updates to the Public Points rewards program, starting October 15, 2025.

What's changing

  • Points-back earning will change from 5% to 2%
  • Anniversary bonus will move from 10 points to 5 points

What’s not changing

  • Your existing points balance
  • Your ability to redeem points the same way
  • The affordable rates you count on

At Public Mobile, we’re committed to providing you with exceptional value through both low rates and meaningful rewards. It’s what sets up apart from other carriers.

This change helps us continue offering both great prices and great rewards, just in a more sustainable way.

We're also updating our terms and conditions, effective October 15, 2025 for customers who joined Public Mobile before August 14, 2025, to address the applicable notice timeframes about any future changes. You can view those here.

There are no changes to your current points balance, and you can continue redeeming your points as usual.

For full details on Public Points, visit our Help Article here.

Frequently Asked Questions

Will I lose any of my existing points?

No. Your current points balance will stay the same. Only the way you earn points is changing starting October 15, 2025.

Can I still redeem points for bill credits, add-ons, and discounts?

Yes. You can continue using your points just like before, whether it’s for bill credits, add-ons, discounts, or other rewards.

Why is Public Mobile making this change?

These updates help align the program with evolving business needs to provide you with exceptional value through both low rates and meaningful rewards.

When will the changes take effect?

The changes will begin on October 15, 2025. Any points earned before that date will still follow the current structure.

Do I need to take any action?

No action is required. Your points will continue to accumulate automatically under the new structure after October 15, 2025.

Thanks for being part of the Public Mobile community.

Due to the continued changes to the loyalty program and the "Black Friday promotions" not really being any good or significant from the typical offering, it is hard not to beleive people when you hear talk that Telus might not be doing as well as they or investors hoped. That Telus might be considering getting rid of Public Mobile. With Cell Service pricing raising by something like 7.7% per the CPI results. Cell Service cost continue to raise might be presure on the significant providers to attempt to discontinue their discount mobile brands.

I was just trying to tell someone to switch to public but they went and looked and its not worth it

It’s really sad to have seen these points change, especially since that was a big reason a lot of us joined Public in the first place. The points were the best part of this plan, and truly the reason I was sharing that Public is the provider I use, but this change has really changed things for me. I still will use Public but it feels sad that they took something so good and well loved by the community and changed it for profit. 😞

hi @_Breathlesshush

yes, I lost from the changes too.  I was also from the legacy systems too.

But when we sit back and think, it is true all good rewards program will ends at some point.   I would say at least we still have 2%, still have Friend Referral points (which is the meat of this program, easy and ongoing rewards).

Yes I realized that today...I'm still pissed though. I used to get $7/month credit, then they forced the new points program so it went from $7/month (credit EVERY MONTH) to earning under $2.00/month in points, though they kept the $10 anniversary credit (7 years in January), which is being reduced to $5.

It seems as though they are penalizing their long-term customers by taking away rewards,  which is backwards in my opinion.

This is why I am very iffy about referring others.

Two other providers offer yearly plans with more average data and lower prices.
One of them even supports WiFi calling and gives a price guarantee.

This should be my last post here,
Be well everybody!

hi @_Breathlesshush

your math was wrong, it will only take 15 months to get the $15 bill credit, you forgot the 5 points Anniversary rewards. So, it works out to be $1/month for you, which is decent saving.

And if you are with another carrier, it will take you "forever" to get the $15 bill credit... as they don't have a rewards program at all!!!

hi @TheKing604 you don't have to feel bad, your friends still earning 2% here. They would be paying $15 straight with 0 discount should they have joined the other carriers.  They have been saving since they joined and they will still be saving even after  the rewards program, just  not as good as before

hi @Mobilemech rewards system is not what the government will help, many community members wasted time filling complaints and learned that.

don't worry about if it will be 0%, all businesses will make change to rewarda system , just earn while you can

Mobilemech

It will be 0%. They are conditioning you to accept it one cut at a time. If they do it all at once, there will be to much backlash.

The force from the old rewards implied that they would be improving the points system. This is the only change they've made since then.

I recommend everyone look into this. I'm hoping the CRTC changes will allow the above carrier to expand into other provinces and really put a hurt on the big 3.

I'm with most others. I haven't gotten over the force off the old system and this is just another step towards no rewards. It's going to happen.

Telus ruined Koodo, a carrier a was with for 11 years before Public. They are going to ruin this service too.

People need to start realizing that we can unite against these companies and change this. Cancel culture is real and if we sink a few billion dollar companies, the rest just might start to take notice. We just have to be willing to go without for a short time.

I used to recommend to seniors who were on a budget and helped them remember to redeem their 15 points for a $15 bill credit. They were always happy to redeem their points.

Now I feel bad that I have helped signed them up. The savings in points really meant a lot to them. Now is it worth it? Not really. Maybe redeemed once a year now.

At my current subscription rate of $34/month it will take 23 months for me to earn the $15 bill credit.

Bloody ridiculous.

I concur.

Edit to add: While I will remain a customer of PM due to a lack of "better" options, I will no longer refer others to Public Mobile. What used to be an awesome deal with top notch service no longer holds true - from glitches with the app to waiting more than 24 hours for service to resume after payment, forced change of rewards plan and now reducing rewards amount I no longer feel good about recommending PM as a provider.

hi @Emm570

don't move away just because you are upset.  2% and 5 points and friend referral are still. better than nothing

Another down turn on the loyality program. Still have not fully gotten over the force over from the "old" loyality program. They seemed to imply coming coming changes to the program when removing the "old" program but in a way that implied a chance of improvement.

Not happy about it ... but unforently likely not going to have an good chance to switch over to another company, as long as PM does not attempt to force me off my current plan. Since I doubt I will find anything out there that truely does compete with my current plan.

Making it more difficult in recommending PM to others when there is not a significant plan on a significant sale. Making it difficult not to share negative opinions on the matters with those who I have recommemded to PM or those who I know are also PM customers.

I think I’m out. Been a loyal customer since 2019 and taking away all of our bonuses is just a way to get rid of everybody. Good job

The points system is one of the biggest reasons I stay with public mobile

I switched one of my PM lines to a different provider the other day. Took maybe 30 minutes to get the account set up over the phone + another hour to port the number over.

I won't name names as it may be against the forum policy, but they are offering 40 GB / year (5g) for $159/year + you get WIFI calling, and the price is locked for as long as you have the plan.

That's 3.3GB per month on average for $13.25 a month. No "rewards", points, or other games. Just a low price with more features. I'll be switching my second line over to them once my PM 90 day subscription ends.

If you need less data, it's even cheaper. Since I leverage my device's storage space to cache music and video, it's rare for me to use more than a GB of data per month. Even if I had to pay extra for a little extra data for a month or two, it's still much cheaper than the 4g PM plan I had.

Really? after the shafting loyal customers took last year?

Unfortunately PM this is still the cheaper option for me. 😢

It's hard to escape raising prices and unethical business practices when the other side of the fence pulls the same shenanigans too.

@MyNameIsMrBurns

That's nothing unethical here.  It is a general business practice.  It is a competitive market and a free market, you are not bounded to stay here, you are free to choose the provider that fits your needs and budget.   Thinking a business cannot raise price or cut benefit is simply unrealistic and a typical error among consumers being self-focus and  lack of awareness of the business and the market.

MyNameIsMrBurns

Telus / Koodo / PM are all the same company. You know that, right?

Bell / Virgin Mobile / Lucky Mobile - same deal.

You don't have to explain. I've been with PM for many years too and was part of the old rewards program.

Said they wouldn't force you to change.

Said you could keep the old system, big savings.

Then they lied. Forced you over.

I looked into leaving, but couldn't find the same or better plan elsewhere so I ate it and stayed. I haven't been in love with PM or recommending them since that all happened. Now that they've chopped us down again, I'm in the same boat again looking to leave if the opportunity comes.

I don't like it but still staying with PM because of their competitive pricing and rewards, thanks

hi @Ggk

yes, I have to say, 2% is still better than 0%  🙂

Hello Community,

this is the second time  when PM decided to change the terms and conditions for their subscribers,

No one likes the change But from PM POV, they are still bringing competitive pricing for the customers and giving rewards, there are few providers out there who don't offer any rewards and their pricing are still going up on regular basis and customer are either still with them or looking for different provider,

I have another account with Koodo and their are raising straight $5 from October on my plan and I'll switch that account to PM and still save few bucks,

I don't like it but still staying with PM because of their competitive pricing and rewards, thanks

This is the second time they changed the rewards system since I've been here.  The first time they eliminated a whole reward plan and forced us all to the "point" system, effectively the same strategy as they are now.

I don't like the changes, but we can't expect the price to stay the same forever.

hi @m1onpublic

yes, this is a true and rational  statement.

Only new startup carrier would give the most competitive price and rewards, as it grow, the price and rewards will align with the rest of the competitors.  This is true for all businesses , all sectors
