Hi Community,
We’re making a few important updates to the Public Points rewards program, starting October 15, 2025.
What's changing
What’s not changing
At Public Mobile, we’re committed to providing you with exceptional value through both low rates and meaningful rewards. It’s what sets up apart from other carriers.
This change helps us continue offering both great prices and great rewards, just in a more sustainable way.
We're also updating our terms and conditions, effective October 15, 2025 for customers who joined Public Mobile before August 14, 2025, to address the applicable notice timeframes about any future changes. You can view those here.
There are no changes to your current points balance, and you can continue redeeming your points as usual.

No. Your current points balance will stay the same. Only the way you earn points is changing starting October 15, 2025.
Can I still redeem points for bill credits, add-ons, and discounts?
Yes. You can continue using your points just like before, whether it’s for bill credits, add-ons, discounts, or other rewards.
Why is Public Mobile making this change?
These updates help align the program with evolving business needs to provide you with exceptional value through both low rates and meaningful rewards.
When will the changes take effect?

Do I need to take any action?
No action is required. Your points will continue to accumulate automatically under the new structure after October 15, 2025.

My wife and I each have a $ 75.00/90-day/60 GB plan, which equates to $ 25.00 a month for 20 GB, on average. I currently have eight referrals, and my wife has one. Assuming all of mine stick around, my yearly bill will go from...
$ 300.00, minus $ 96.00 in referrals, minus $ 10.00 for loyalty, minus $ 9.70 in 5% cash back = $ 184.30.
to...
$ 300.00, minus $ 96.00 referrals, minus $ 5.00 loyalty, minus $ 3.98 for 2% cash back = $ 195.02.
$ 195.02 minus $ 184.30 is a $ 10.72 yearly increase, which is approximately a 5.82% increase, just over 89¢ a month. My plan price has never changed, except when I've switched plans, so the only way PM can raises prices is to mod the points. Inflation does continue to happen. Personally, I don't think my increase will be excessive. Separately, after checking multiple other carriers, currently, no one else is offering 20 GB per month for $ 25.00, so, even without any points, it's still the best deal for us.
I don't like the changes, but we can't expect the price to stay the same forever.

Yeah, Charlie Munger wrote about this once, it's called Deprival-Superreaction Tendency in his book called The Psychology of Human Misjudgment. There was an anecdote about how to get a good-natured dog to bite you and it was basically by taking away food that was already in his mouth, ie: taking back something once given. We can see that there are lots of customers willing to leave Public because of this change to the rewards program, even though the change is probably worth like a buck or two a month and is fairly immaterial.
I can see Public's perspective on this one. I'm paying less now in nominal dollars than 12 years ago for far better service, but I don't think this experiment in mass psychology is going to have a positive outcome.

hi @Chillforce
honest, I doubt they will turn back. For business, usually once it is announced, it is announced
just hope they will bring out more value-added features and drop in price. And this happened, they removed the legacy rewards last year. But they brought 5G, VoLTE, US/Mexico roaming plans. And plans price dropped a lot. $25 used to be just 1GB, and we now are talking about $25 4GB or they sometimes have flash deal for $25-20GB.

Any possibility that this can be re-thought?
The rewards program had unique value and is a differentiator between Public Mobile other brands, in the proposed state it won't be of very much value and potential customers will ignore it at best or see it as brand decay and avoid Public Mobile at worst. It also will no longer work as a type of platform lock in because the amount of points given will be so low it will take too long to save enough points to use them for anything worthwhile.
Public is a great provider and I will stay as the plan I have really fits me well and the service is very good. However, it's going to be hard to convince others to join Public over Freedom after this goes through..

I will definitely love a lower 5g $34 is to much for me
08-16-2025 04:39 PM
Any suggestions for a new provider?
08-16-2025 10:15 AM
I redeemed mine as well. A reduction in value is probably next.
08-16-2025 10:14 AM
Definitely. The $15 threshold should be lowered.

LOL! I love corporate double speak. We're taking additional steps to weaken the reward system and increase profits.

this is an perfect example of overreact post
all reward programs are like that, start off great and get worse over the years. Just life.
Accept it or find another one that your think will treat customers better. But be prepared to get disappointed, as all are like this. Part of life

Hello,
Regarding:
It’s doesn’t make sense for an incredible profiting corporation like yourself to reduce the points system unless your loosing money. I do see your record profits year over year so why would you give loyal customers less?

not a change we like to see. Ok to be frustrated But some posts are simply overreacted

hi @Rajaji I don't think they will touch the existing reward points, but yes, redeem whenever you have 15 points for $15 credit. And if you need the add-on , redeem via points as it is cheaper to get thos add-on using points
08-15-2025 02:27 PM
Agree! This is the same practice with many, many other loyalty programs (Airmiles, Aeroplan, credit cards, etc, etc). I just redeemed this morning for a statement credit.
08-15-2025 02:21 PM
I have never redeemed the points since I was forced to points system. Got switch bonus and monthly payment bonus and anniversary as well.
I think I have to start redeeming those. Who knows PM will bring out new rule of taking it back if not used. 😁
08-15-2025 02:02 PM
The funny thing is if PM came out and said "We aren't doing as well as we had planned, financially, so we are increasing the price of all plans by $1/month" then they would get way less backlash and overall gain a similar amount of revenue.
Oh well. Time to port out.

I'll be honest. I came for the cheap rates. We don't have the selection in NS as other provinces have. The best way to combate this is for the CRTC to allow more MNVO's in Canada. More competition will lower prices.

that is a good point. Would be nice if @Ck_PM can review the request, maybe add the $5 and $10 bill credit for redeeming
@hTideGnow , or remove the restrictions on how many of our points that we can use towards paying on our bill.

I would expect them to reduce the redeeming value next. Probably best to use your points sooner rather than later.
08-15-2025 11:35 AM
“meaningful rewards” EHHHHH try again Public Mobile. Decreasing earning value while keeping redeeming value the same. If you have to decrease the earning value, you also have to decrease the redemption value.

@Ck_PM Just a thought on the minimum redemption, that the 15 point minimum should be reduced to match the ratio of the reduction in rewards. The reason being is that anybody on a subscription that is less than $42 per month will never see 15 points in a year to make a redemption under the upcoming model, assuming that they don't have any referrals, or have a ton of time to spend on the community forum.

Yes, you will still get 1 point per 30 days per active referral. However, the churn rate of these referrals can be expected to increase as there is little incentive for people to remain customers for longer periods of time.
Thanks, i agree that churn rate will rise, but i will deal with that when the time comes

What a poor rewards program it is going to be.
2% and 5 for anniversary and no more more the merrier data and minutes anymore.
Very disappointing 😔

You know I'd rather PM is just honest about things and not blatantly lying to us.
08-14-2025 11:12 PM
Thank you PM, when you stopped allowing us to switch back and forth from switching to lower plans was pushing it. Now you’ve pushed too far. Come Black Friday I’ll be moving my 12 lines out of PM.
08-14-2025 11:02 PM
The revised rewards are no longer attractive, and I'm leaving after black friday this year
