With so many advancements in phone technology happening so quickly, I'm curious about the latest trends we should be keeping an eye on. It feels like every year, new features are making our phones faster, smarter, and more intuitive. Whether it’s Android lock screen widgets, new AI capabilities, there’s always something new. What are the top trends you think are worth paying attention to right now?

I always look forward to the advances in the cameras in each new model of phone.

I got my hands on a Google Pixel with night vision about 5 years ago.  It is amazing to take photos in near dark conditions and get pretty sharp well exposed images without an annoying flash.  In the last few years, I have been using the in-phone editing like Magic Eraser.  I can erase most background people from my vacation photos. I can take better photos using a smart phone than lugging a big DSLR.  Recently, Google is adding a feature where you can superimpose or add a person to an existing photo.  All pretty fun stuff.  There are also advances in video, but I rarely take videos.

I'm curious to know what you all love most about the Glance widget on Android. For me, having quick access to news and updates without unlocking my phone is super handy, but I’m sure there are other cool features I haven’t explored yet. Whether it’s the sports updates, little games, or just the convenience, what’s your favorite feature? Would love to hear your thoughts!

The next "big thing" will be AI being integrated on iPhones, also known as Apple Intelligence.  Which will include some new/never seen before features.   And while some always yap about comparing apple/android, the main difference i see is when apple releases something, it is flawless, better user interface, and more effective. Android likes to be seen as ahead of the curve, but that comes with the cost of many bugs/glitches and a not so friendly user experience.
AI will certainly be the next "big thing" in my opinion and will make mundane tasks easier to do.

@Islasmith

I can see 6G or wifi 7 in the future.

Nothing to see here really, mostly hyperbolic advertising.  When upgrade cycles on phone continue to protract, that says it all.  What is more interesting is the new options in phone services.  The barriers to roaming is the next to fall now that big gig plans are plentily and affordable.

For those who insist on walking and talk/texting...cellphones should be equipped with airbags....

Most important feature (for me) is for phone to work properly when I need it.

Do not care much (or at all!) for AI and similar stuff.

Whatever you have it - use it to the max and change it Only if it becomes incompatible with network you use. Everything else is waste of money as manufacturer will always come with 'new feature' to take money from you; ideal customer is one who changes phone every year so if you have money to burn - go for it.

hi @Islasmith

the most important feature for used on the network is to make sure your phone has 5G and proper network bands.  And all new phones pretty much have VoLTE,  Wifi Calling build-in and it is now more if the network has the features

You are buying new phone? what is your budget and what in your mind? I would stay with Canadian models and main brands like Apple or Samsung or Moto for better compatibility

@Islasmith

Seems like the latest is AI on iPhones while Samsung is ahead by a year over Apple.
