Sunday
Probably late to the party here and maybe some of these have been covered, but here my thoughts:
kijiji / marketplace- there are still good people out there-just check seller feedback and be patient. The platforms allow YOU to set your budget and negotiate with the seller, but offer little to no buyer protection after the fact.
mobile klinik- kind of like a winners homesense situation… what they have today may be gone tomorrow but you will get limited warranty so you have some confidence
friends/neighbours/coworkers - I guarantee you that someone you know has a drawer at home of used phones. Start asking around and you’ll find a phone in seconds.
And lastly, google “Used cell phones in my area” and you will most likely have 4-5 good options of brick and mortar stores who sell accessories, do repairs and sell phones. This option is kind of a mix of Kijiji and mobile klinik and a friend.
Best of Luck!

I would not buy a used phone because an aged battery has a limited life and is expensive to replace. Also, phones have limited support. Many phones only have 2-3 years of updates/support. Once you lose support, your phone may have security vulnerabilities or new apps may not work.
You can sometimes buy a "bnib" (brand new in the box) phone on a discount off of craigslist or kijiji. These are usually "free" phones that people get when they renew an expensive plan, but have no use for the phone.
You can also buy refurbished phones from the big telecoms or from the manufacturer. Often these are new phones that get returned after a plan is cancelled in the first 30 days. Or the used phone is traded in, and new battery is installed if necessary.
Personally, I have been buying the previous year's pixel model when the new model comes out. For example, the google pixel 9 pro is now selling for about $1,400. A brand new Pixel 7a or 8a at the google store sells for about $599 or $679. I have a 7a and it is excellent. Google spells out their minimum length of support clearly and often exceeds the length of support. For the pixel 7a, the length of support is at least up to May, 2028. With Black Friday and Christmas around the corner, there are usually good sales.

I am looking for a phone for 2 of my friends because their phones are on the last legs. The problem with Moto phones although they are good phones. The OS update is only for one year. While Samsung now if 5 years of updates.
Black Friday deal are coming up and I see Staples just started their sale yesterday.
I recommended the Samsung A15 5G and the Samsung A35 5G. My friends just need a phone for calling, texting, using apps and internet search’s…no bells and whistles for them.
For your son, I would recommend the Samsung A03S for $150.

Well for starters I already mentioned I sold it and it’s against community guidelines to use this site to buy and sell goods . I just answered his question on where to buy used phones that was the original question . I wasn’t suggesting Apple or android until you pressed me on it . And that’s how we got here at the end of the day new tech old tech doesn’t really matter everything is preference and I was only trying to help OP find a place to buy used phones at same time I agree with you in the fact I don’t like to buy used phones or anything used for that matter I like that new car/phone /clothes smell and only like to buy things I find is easy to resell.

So why didn't you offer up an iPhone 14 to OP instead of recommending a will aged phone from mobile klinik?

Well for $350 I’d sell ya iPhone 14 all day long just sold one in sept for $400 and gave my daughter my old 15 so next sept I’ll have 15 $400 for sale , that same pixel 7 I couldn’t even give away . But this is not our decision OP would like to know where to buy used I offered a place for that safe to buy used I’m sure they have android there to for sale it’s personal preference and we all have to choose between what we need and can afford .

@Handy1 wrote:@will13am I think it’s better then any new android , but that’s my preference I’m Apple guy . I’d buy from Kijiji and I sell 1 year old phones every year there too and I’m not a scam just have to do your due diligence when buying used . At the end of the day it’s @benpinto choice not ours
I would not touch a 7 year old iPhone with a 10 m ugly stick. In the summer, a pixel 7a was selling for $350. Brand new phone vs 7 year old for about the same price. It is a no brainer. Don't hoard stale tech.

@Chalupa_Batman Well truth be told I’d only buy iPhone 16 today. Can get them used already too , but then it’s not budget friendly

The only concern I have with the XR @Handy1 is the support for that phone ends sometime in 2025.
If they have iPhones I'd be looking more towards an iPhone SE 2020 as it's supported till mid to late 2027. JMO.

That phone was released in 2018! You think it is good value paying $279 for electronics that is 7 years old?

Hey @benpinto
I kid you not when I make this suggestion. A few here have bought this for their "seniors" and "kids" in the family.

This phone according to a few brothers here on the forum said this works perfectly with Public Mobile.
I've tried it and I liked it. A 13 year old doesn't need a smart phone just yet. LOL

@benpinto Mobile Klinik has used phones and I think there are affiliated with Telus , some good deals to be had there for used

@benpinto , what is your budget? Personally, I am not in favor of buying used. There are too many scammers out there. If you are partial to android, sales are available from time to time. Google offers good deals within about 6 months of a new phone release. I have seen Costco sell Motorola phones at reasonable prices. Black Friday is fast approaching which is a good buying opportunity.
