Good SIM or eSIM for travelling to Europe.

Are you travelling to Europe and need a SIM or eSIM?  PM does not offer European roaming or travel add-on at this time.

I answered this question twice in two other community threads, so I thought it might be better to put this in a separate thread for others to search and find more easily.

One thing to note.  The EU has a policy of free roaming.  Therefore, if you buy a sim from one EU country, it should work in any other EU country.  The UK is no longer part of EU, but they still share roaming, for now.  If you buy a UK sim to use in EU, or vice versa, you should read the fine print just to make sure.

I recommend Orange Travel.  Orange is a French cellular provider.  I used Orange in Germany and Spain last year. It worked flawlessly. I plan to use it again in Portugal in September.  You will get a French telephone number that is useable in all of the EU.

Some eSIMs like Airalo are very good, offer lots of data for longer time at a decent price, but they do not give you a telephone number to talk or SMS text.  Of course, you can still make calls or messaging using apps like WhatsApp, WeChat, etc. as long as the people you are communicating with have the same app.  I like having a local phone number that I can give to people, like the hotels or restaurants.

Orange sells both SIM or eSIM. For €19.99, you get 14 days, 8GB of 4G/LTE data, unlimited talk and text all over Europe, 30 min international call and 200 international texts (for communicating back to Canada).  I used Orange in Germany and Spain last year and plan to use it again in Portugal in September.

You can buy an Orange SIM or eSIM online.  The eSIM is best if your phone is eSIM compatible.  They will send the eSIM to you online and you can be set it up so it acrivates when you land in Europe:

If you have a dual sim phone, make sure you toggle PM off.  If you leave it active, it will search for signal and will use up your battery.  You can deactivate dual sim mode by dialing *#*#4636#*#* and then select the Orange eSIM over the PM sim. When you get home, you can select PM.

I hope you found this helpful. I can try to answer questions. However, I have disabled notifications and only check back occasionally when I am in the PM community mood.  Have a good trip.
