I checked my Imei number  on the  public mobile website to make sure my phone was compatible and it said it was. I got the sim unlock code message Woman Sad This phone ( moto g Gen 3 xt1540) is locked to Telus network, but I understand from reading the community board, public mobile is Telus an my phone should easily work. Is there anything I can do, I wasn't planning to have to pay to get my phone unlocked.

Hello Sincindy,

I have just ported over my number to public mobile today from Bell. I had to unlock my phone with them, by calling bell directly. The fee was $50 plus tax, I am unsure what it would be with Telus. The number to contact them is 1-866-558-2273, give them a call and unlock your phone. It was a very easy switch for me today, good luck with your activation!

There are local shops that do it for $40 and online services that do it for $14-25

Feel free to use one of those options, if they are trusted. I felt Bell was the easiest as I do not live close to a local shop that unlocks phones, hopefully unlocking your phone will work.

Thank you.... I was just wondering why my Telus phone doesn't work since public mobile is telus

I believe PM runs seperate from Telus, they just are using Telus towers for service, but are a third party company that offers lower rates with better plans. @Shazia_K

Go to mobifree.net you can unlock that phone for $3

I've used ebay to unlock all my phones. Cost me about $4 and it all happens within about an hour. I realize that Apple phones might be more difficult, but Ebay has been great for both my Android and BB phones in the past.

Just unlocked both my wife and I on the HTC M8 One locked to Bell - was $4 a piece through ebay. Easy!

@sincindy any phone locked to Telus or Koodo is supposed to work without unlocking with your PM sim card as all 3 are on the same network.

My phone was locked to Telus when I moed to PM and it worked without unlocking.

If you just bought this phone, place the Telus sim card it came with and boot up.  If you still get the sim unlock code screen, then you can take the phone back and get it exchanged.

You can also try doing a factory reset on this phone. Power on without the sim card in and then go to Settings >> General >> Backup and Reset >> Factory data reset

Getting an unlock code via ebay is extremely cheap and it should also work.  I was able to get an unlock code from ebay for $5.
