I think PM should have option in self-serve for PM Guest clients to register their Device IMEI # in our Self-Serve accounts so that if we lost OR our Devices were ever stolen, Preventing ppl from unauthorized Entry to our devices Info, that can certainly be a handy tool, even for those who paid lots of $$$$$ for our beloved toys and have info that is important to us.

Its just COMMON-!SENSE.

There are billions of IMEI in the world, so its impossible to do what they haven't sold. They can only Block IMEI's of Telus, Koodo & PM because that is what's in there data base. In your case if your Telus Alactel Idol 3 gets stolen you will have the option to put a block on your IMEI.

Hello,

Why is a self-serve account necessary for registering a phone's IMEI? All that one has to do is print it on a sheet of paper at home, and keep it with other crucial documents, such as insurance policy, bank account numbers, credit card numbers, birth certificate, etc.

Cheers.

^ I think what he means is being able to put a block on the IMEI in case he reports it lost or stolen. Being that his new device is mostly like be a Telus Device so he will have the option to put a block on it in case if something like that would occur

Hello makkahn28,

From reading chuk's post, I better understand yours. It would indeed be a good option to have the phone's IMEI registered in one's account so that it can be blocked in the event of loss or theft.

Good point!

Hey guys, I thought all devices used with a PM Sim card are sending IMEI to PM.. And then compared against the national blacklist to make sure it's clean.  So, if we report our device lost to the PM in self serve, I think that PM will put that device on the blacklist preventing it's usage to get service in North America.  This is because all service providers know the IMEI linked to all the sim cards on their network, that's how they enforce the blacklist.  Also, with your phones security features, there must be a site you can log into from any computer and wipe your data in the event that you lost your phone.

@Martin @chukdefatey, that is 110% Correct. If, Example, @Martin bought a $780 Nxux 6, I am pretty sure that even he would want some added layer of secured peace of mind. Especially if device was stolen, and phone had certain info that was on that phone. Just saying, as an example.  Besides, I do not know 110% where to register an IMEI from a 3rd party source. So far, this phone I bought is like the 8th wonder, and for $360, That's certainly a bargain.

@imm1304, Yes everytime a sim is inserted into a Phone the IMEI gets registered that is how they know if it's been reported lost or stolen but Providers can only blacklist an IMEI if they originally sold the Phone.

Example: if you brought an unlocked Rogers Device to PM & if you were to Report it lost or stolen PM can not blacklist that IMEI with Public Mobile

@makkhan28, What's with 110% everytime. When I went to school Percentage was always based on 100. Did you go to different school then most People? where Percentage was based on more then a 100. Why can't you say 100% instead of this BS 110% everytime.

Thanks @chukdefatey for the explanation.  I didn't know about this technical point.

Its only fair that we, the owner of the phone, should have freedom to choose any provider we like and report to the lost/stolen blacklist via any provider we are with at the time of loss/theft.

So, good idea @makkahn28.. I hope PM actually has a say in this process and can do something to protect our devices
