Get rid of Province wide calling

Get rid of it - too complicated. In today's day and age, it really is too complicated.

Only have Cda wide. Right now Cda wide is typically $5/month extra on 90 day plans. Make it $3/month (or $2) extra but force all new account onto it. 

eg The common 90day $120 prov wide, SMS, 6GB would be $129 Cda wide. Obviously the $135 Cda wide plan would go away as well

Most people will remain on Prov Wide because they don't to give up the 2016 Fall promo.

If there is an actual extra cost to carriers for Cda wide, I am sure most users will remain inside te province just as they are now. So really they are getting a few extra dollars/month. Yes, you would be giving a small discount to those already on CdaWide.........

Great idea, but I would suggest no extra cost. There is no long distance for data and so same treatment should apply to calls. Everything is about moving data packets from source to destination.

well this would only work for the bulk of us if they offered the fall promo with canada wide... otherwise I doubt many will swap for less data ... I rarely use my canada wide minutes I bought for just in case. 

I for one am fine with province wide. 99% of the folk I call are in Ontario... the 1% I use Internet calling like whatsapp.

Im also fine with province wide calling. Everyone I know is also in Ontario. I'd rather not pay more for minutes I know I probably wont end up using. We have free apps that can all the other provinces for free, or even the states

My point is not for current accounts. Let everyone keep their current plans. I would not switch to this proposed plan, my current plan is better. This is only for new accounts. I actually do not see many people swtiching. This only for going forward.

You should not need to have a 5 min conversation and pull out tables and charts to explain how Prov Wide works.

No issues with provincial calling. bought the long distance addon 9 months ago and only used 30 minutes and most of that was to Italy.

I still have 198 minutes of the 200 minute package I got in July/August last year.  And those minutes were to call the US (no toll free number).

Most people don't need Canada-Wide, and those who do, have already got it, or use other methods.

For people in areas around provincial borders, they should have "local calling" available.  In fact, everyone should have local calling, because not all calls in a local calling area are in the same province, or area code.  eg. Ottawa and Hull.

I actually like @will13am's modification--make it no charge.  

Essentially, grandfather (retire) all the prov-wide plans out there so we can keep them, including 2016 fall promo, like other grandfathered plans.  But, for anyone just signing up, or chaning their plan after this idea get implemented, offer up:

1) 90 day, Canada-wide, global texting, 3 GB for $111, completely replacing the prov-wide variation at this price point

2) 90 day, Canada-wide, global texting, 6 GB for $120, completely replacing the prov-wide variation at this price point

3) 90 day, Canada-wide, global texting, 12 GB for $186, completely replacing the prov-wide variation at this price point

This would be a great simplification and take away a lot of guesswork and confusion for new customers.  A lot of people really like the peace of mind of unlimited Canada-wide calling even if they don't use it a lot.  No need to think about it if you need to call a friend, family member, or business across the country, just pick up the phone and do it.  I'm in favour of this idea for sure.

I have no issue with Province wide callings. Telus only offers local or Canada wide at an additional cost. PM being their budget brand having Province wide the standard is a nice inbetween. 

And as others have said, many people don't really have a need for Canada wide calling and Province wide is enough for their long distance needs. 

Besides, PMs add LD add ons are pretty cheap and never expire so they're a nice option for those that do require a Canada wide option at a reasonable price.

The US carriers don't differentiate state wide calling and nation wide calling.  We are just not keeping with the times here.  There is an element of what the customer will bear too.  If the majority of customer keep placing great value on nation wide calling over provincial wide calling, then the carriers will charge accordingly.  Personally, I refuse to pay extra for a product of no value.  Today there are so many free calling options, yet it remains largely untapped.  I have not paid anything for Canada/US calling for years and years in spite of never having had a plan with Canada wide calling.

Most of the responses people don't  seem to be addressing the point I am trying to make. I like my ProvWide, I get it and it works for me.

But.....

1 - This proposal would only be for new accounts or plan changes. Everyone with ProvWide now can keep it, I plan to keep my plan.

2- Most people (mother-inlaw included) can understand CdaWide. I can make calls to anywhere in Canada and I can receive calls while anywhere within the borders of Canada. All unlimited. Simple.They also understand that making calls to the US would be extra.

3 -  ProvWide. Trying to explain this one is, well, trying. These are typical questions that often circle back to the same question being re-asked... (note: I am not asking for answers, I am simply stating a typical conversation)

- can I call other provinces?

- can other provinces call me? 

- What do you mean the same long distance plan works for both Cda and US?

- So what happens when I leave the province?

- What happens when I leave the country?

- Does the long distance plan work when I leave the country?

- Wait - I can call local numbers in the province I am visiting?

- Can local numbers call me in the province I am visiting?

- Can I call numbers in my home province when visiting somewhere else?

- Can local numbers from my home province call me when I am visiting some other province?

I know there are more. This seems a little much for 2017.

Once again, this would only be for new accounts. I get that people like and want to keep their ProvWide plan. Maybe they make too much revenue on the LongDistance package to give it up.
