Add ability to subscribe and receive e-mail notifications for new posts in an area of the Community

At the moment, you can only subscribe to individual discussion threads. It would be very helpful to be able to subscribe to specific areas of the community, NOT using RSS feeds, 

e.g. Discussions, Plans & Add-ons, or especially Announcements, etc.

I know this is a third party forum tool but please see about having this functionality added.

P.S. As a very active member and participant of 2 other forums and moderator of one, I can tell you that this feature is a great tool to facilitating and increasing user participation, which would be in line with one of the objectives of this Community forum.

Thx. Good reference should I choose to use RSS but I am looking for a non-RSS solution, as the RSS route is more involved than I want. The underpinning infrastructure is there in this forum...it just requires the developers to link it to "Topics" too (or whatever the folrum areas are called), not just 

I'll hold on to this info should I decide to go the RSS route.
