This idea came out of @Luddite's hypothetical question about early renewal if one ran out of data and did not want to wait, nor buy an add-on, nor change their plan (to force an early renewal).

Shazia confirmed for us that this is not possible in the self-serve system:

http://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Paying-for-your-service/Early-renewal-of-data-only-pla...

I'm thinking this is probably an uncommon scenario and may not warrant much priority, but it would be great to see an abiltiy added for folks to force an early renewal in self-serve without requiring a plan change.  It would be totally fair to include the same forfeit that you get today if you were to do an immediate plan change.  Basically, it would be an immediate plan change but to the same plan.

Thanks for your consideration!

I see no reason against Public allowing early renewals (just make sure the warning is big enough that you lose any unused days) but think it is more of an issue for those on tablet type plans.

Still +1 for idea

Would your idea be like resetting your renewal date?

For example, if I have a 1GB 30-day plan and end up using up all the data on day 20, I can then renew my plan for another 30 days?  If my usual renewal date is the 18th of the month, it should now be the 8th of the month. Am I following what you're suggesting @srlawren?

Well. That's funny. I rather spend 50$ on add-on than pay 120 again 🙂 the idea is interesting:)

@Ionut the price per GB of the add-ons is ridiculous, at $30/GB.  If, for example, you only had a few days left in your plan, it might well be more cost-effective to be able to renewal early.

Good suggestion.

An alternative version of this would be having Data Add-ons that expire, but are also less expensive. Some way to add more data 30 days without switching to the 30-day plan.

For example, a 30-day/3gb/30$ data add-on that adds 30 days before your next top-up, assuming you have less than 30 days remaining.

Let's say you're at day 80/90, 30$ would push your next top-up by 30 days.

If you're at day 20/90, then 30$ would not push your next top-up but would give you the additional data.

Basically, adding data (that doesn't rollover and therefore is priced less) at a convenient time without a plan change.

@srlawren   seriously,  OP is the greatest idea ever,  as it goes with my strong belief that voice/text are  nowadays just some rudiments of the Great Darwinian Mobile Communications Evolution :), and will be obsolete very soon. Just look what  has happened with the  home phone/internet.

So,  what  will remain,  is either of the two:

-   the data offered  for a number of  $ per GB (this is where  the current idea stands), or

- unlimited data for a flat price for those who do not want to bother with the limits.

(voice/text will be offered  as some lightweight bonus)

Yes please! I hit the thumbs up button. Is that how I vote? If not, can someone tell me how?
