I had help with this in the past before as well. It just depends where your number was last in service with. If the number was with Public Mobile before you cancelled then you can contact the moderator team and they will see if the number is still available. If it's still available they will put the number on hold for you and they will provide instructions on how to activate your old number again.
If your number was with a number carrier before you cancelled then you have to go through them and see if it's still available as well too. After that you would just have to port the number over.

Is PM/Telus/Koodo gave you that number?
If yes, you can get that number back by sending a private message to moderator.
As soon as your account is canceled, the canceled number will be send back to the provider who issues that number. Phone company will keep the canceled number for another 90 days before re-used again.
