I cancelled my virgin mobile account and then tried to activate my public mobile with my virgin mobile number but my phone is not working. Do i need a new phone number or can I still use the virgin mobile number?

If you cancelled you Virgin account first, you can’t port your old number to PM so when you activated the SIM. You only have the choice of picking a new number, if you picked porting your number over. You will get a notice that the number can’t be ported over.
Contact a CS_Agent to help you login to your new account to pick a new number.

Both accounts have to be Active in order to port number to PM.
If you cancelled Virgin them most likely your number is lost.

A cancelled phone nubmer cannot be transferred to another carrier. You'll have to take a new phone number or first reactivate your Virgin Mobile service before requesting number porting again.
