I have been getting many spam phone calls; it seems to be happening more frequently than with Bell. Does Public Mobile do any filtering of spam? If not, could visual voicemail be added sometime in the future as a service? Thanks

It's not worse at any carrier. The spammers call any number. You can change your number but they could call it too. I don't usually get these calls, maybe once a month.

Check my earlier post with a solution I use: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Discussions/Fun-with-Conditional-Call-forwarding-and-...
Use "Conditional call forwarding" for "busy", and set that to forward to a number that is not in service, or some other automated response. Then, when you actively "Decline" a call you are sure is spam, it will forward the robocall to that number rather than also clogging up your voicemail. This may cause the spam callers to flag your number as 'not in service' or 'not a human' and may reduce your callbacks.
Can be fun to do it to a friend occasionally too. 🙂 Calls that are unanswered, or when your phone is offline, will still proceed to voicemail as usual.

@CC2 Did you port your number over from Bell or did you pick a new PM number? Please note that you can change your number once every 30 days.
Some device manufacturers provide better spam protection services than others. In my case Google provides a good service in that regard.
As for visual voice mail since Public is a tier 3 provideri wouldn't hold my breath.

Nothing is offered yet.
We have these to look forward to. Coming soon...

Here's another one I like. It only works with Google Pixel phones for now.
But coming soon to an Android phone near you...

For now, you can block the numbers on your phone.
You can also disable your voicemail.

Phone ringer off or on vibrate only might help too along with call blocking:

And if you're not too attached to your phone number, you can request a number change via Self-serve
