why is my samsung asking for a sim pin when my iphone says there is no sim pin?

is that a new Samsung you just got? it has never been used on PM network?

could be a carrier lock instead.  You need to contact the carrier you got from and ask them for a carrier unlock code

it is a different kind of lock

If it is a Samsung and if the message is "SIM network PIN blocked. Enter SIM network PUK." , 
      call  Samsung 1-800-726-7864 for a master unlock code.
      The only info you will need to provide is the IMEI and where the phone was purchased|
