Most people use the second option while travelling and get an eSIM while abroad.

If you want a second number without paying a second monthly fee, just get a second number from TextNow for free wifi calling and texting.

@webspy007 of course you can,  with PM using physical sim, your other carrier would have to be eSIM 

when you have 2 sim, make sure you use the sim manager on the phone to sort out which sim will be used for  data or voice

Maybe look at getting a US MVNO that will allow roaming in Canada or one from another country?

@webspy007yes you can but the second number needs to be with the esim from another provider that offers it like Telus or bell
