Hello,   After a couple of months without service, I resumed my service this afternoon through a credit card payment.  My account says the plan is active but my phone will not connnect to cellular.  Does anyone have any knowledge about this?   Thank you.

@karlaocuellarEven though your phone is no longer supported, I would suggest going to Apple Store instead of London Drugs. They have the tools (which LD won't have) and often depending which genius you deal with they will give you a free SIM card, if indeed that is the problem. It is still free even though it is out of warranty, I suggest go really early though if you can't get an appointment online.

@karlaocuellar  Sounds like the issue is account related and not sim related so I don't think a sim swap will make a difference. Best to wait for the response from the moderator team because they will be able to check/reset your account from their end.

@karlaocuellar Also a good idea to reset your network settings.

To Reset Network Settings, open Settings -> General -> Reset -> Reset Network Settings. Enter your iPhone passcode, then tap on Reset Network Settings when the confirmation pop-up appears near the bottom of your iPhone’s display.

@karlaocuellarYou mentioned you return from overseas? What is your phone's time say? Does it match with your local time? Is "Set Automatically" set to enabled under Settings -> Date & Time? Difference in time can do weird things.

Depending on your iPhone OS revision (I assume it is iOS 10+ with a 5s) , Carrier Settings should be automatic, when it senses network (could be wifi or lightning cable via iTunes) + SIM card carrier ID the phone will download the carrier profile without intervention. You can't intervene even if you want. Apple compromised with carriers like Rogers, so they can disable certain features like wifi tethering while their SIM card is in the iPhone.

Treading into unfamiliar Apple territory here 🙂 ... on the phone ... Settings/General/About ... maybe also click on the version but the first part might show an update.

Edit: ninja'd by geopublic .... I shouldn't be in the Apple sandbox 🙂

@karlaocuellar  Try the following:

You can manually check for and install a carrier settings update with these steps:
  1. Make sure your device is connected to a Wi-Fi or cellular network.
  2. Tap Settings > General > About. If an update is available, you'll see an option to update your carrier settings.

@karlaocuellar

  1. From the menu bar at the top of the iTunes window, choose Help > Check for Updates.

It’s been only 60 days or less.

I didn’t wait 5 - 10 minutes on either trick...  I’ll try again with the lost phone one and wait.  Do you think I should try again with the $1 trick also?

That isn't done unless the account gets closed.  There are some customers who have backup/burner/car phones that get very used very infrequently or even not for months at a time.  As long as the service is paid for or isn't allowed to be in suspeneded status >90 days,  it's really not Public Mobile's concern if the service is never used or if the sim card is never in the phone.

@maheshboloorAll Public Mobile SIMs can only be activated once. If the account holder has 90 consecutive days of inactivity, everything including credits will be erased from the system, the SIM card then would not be able to be used again. However @karlaocuellar doesn't indicate to be the case because she can access her voicemail and her online account.

@karlaocuellarFor the Lost / Stolen trick, you did wait for 5-10 minutes between step and power cycled right? Carrier instructions are not immediate.

connecting to wifi works

@karlaocuellar Connect to wifi login to itunes account and check for and apply carrier updates. Restart your phone.

Was the partners iphone 5 also used with a Mexican sim  recently ?

@karlaocuellarThen contacting the moderators will be the only course of action... be expect to hear back from them 48 hours plus.. depending on work load.

PS what happen when you use another phone to call your own number?

yes. put the sim into my partner's iphone 5 and it said no service.

Do you have access to a different unlocked phone you can try the sim in ? This will see if its a sim problem or a handset problem.

tried both of those, neither worked.
