I'm looking at an Iphone from Facebook Marketplace and am wondering if Public Mobile unlocks these phones?
If it's not unlocked will Public Mobile do it or should I ask them to? thanks

The best response is from @BKNS27
Keep in mind everyone is assuming the phone was originally purchased in Canada. You can ask for the IMEI number and there is a site to see if it is locked or not. And there is a way to see if it is unlocked in settings, about.
I always check for unlock and black list...then I confirm the IMEI in settings on the phone that I plan to buy.

I myself have used the iPhone SE 2020 on the Public Mobile network and works just fine. I then moved it over to the iPhone XR and still works just fine. If the phone is locked, you are SOL. That phone will be nothing more than a paper weight. Or you could use it as a VOIP phone as an alternative. Download VOIP programs like Fongo and/or TextNow. As long as you're connected to a WiFi spot, free calling!!!

It sounds like you already pickup the locked phone and needing help on how to unlock it.

@publicuser1234 I would be really careful buying phones from any marketplace, FB Marketplace, BestBuy Marketplace, Walmart Marketplace, eBay, etc
While not all of them have problem, some of them sell people blacklisted phone. They can either blacklisted on arrival or some can use it for couple months and then suddenly bing blacklisted
If you are still going ahead with it, keep this blacklist site checker handy:

Did the seller say that the phone is locked? As mentioned, most newer phones in Canada are unlocked these days. Any older phones locked to Telus or Koodo will work with Public mobile. With older phones, the original carrier can unlock. For example, PM can not unlock a Rogers locked phone.
Buyer beware on Facebook, kijiji or Craiglist purchases. Lots of stories of people who purchased phones only to find out later that the seller reports the phone stolen, or blacklisted for other reasons. Then the buyer has an useless phone.

Carriers are not allowed to lock phones in Canada since December 1, 2017 so if it is a Canadian phone. It should be unlocked since the iPhone SE was produced in 2020.
The only issues if the iPhone is Blacklisted and reported stolen or lost.
You can check if it is Blacklisted on:
Dial *#06# to get the IMEI number.
If it is Blacklisted, pass on the purchase because Apple will need proof of ownership to take it off the Blacklist.
