had to replace phone - new phone gets no data on cell network

Hi there.
My new unexpectedly-required phone sends + receives texts and phone calls and wifi works correctly, but no data works to/from the cell network. 
It says it's connected but the phone's (android 12) 'about system' shows that the phone has no IP address assigned when connected to cell data.

Do i need to update IMEI or something?

Check your APN settings. APN is for data ONLY and does not affect SMS/calls.
