In the last hour neither my husband or I can make calls or receive them - data, account all good. Have tried re-starting. We can get emails on our computers , so we have connectivity on the internet at home.

Reset your Network setting on both of your phones and see if that helps.

@Ineke1 , are you able to confirm a solid mobile network connection? The data working at home might be via WiFi which is separate from the mobile network.

what phone do you have? Some people have problem because PM retiring one of the two 3G bands, not sure if you are affected.
