@computergeek541 @ShawnC13 @Luddite, would one of you please remove the solution from this post; it was picked in error, and I think OP was not sure how to reverse it.

Thank you 🙂

@BarbO

you know why is that happen, because your device is for someone else and them is set up on them SIM card and them number is still in that device info and when you insert your SIM card will be in contacts at My Card top up on display you saw it. right ! and that device is not changed to updated new SIM card info.
the Solution you need to do

for iphone Go to Settings > General > Transfer or Reset iPhone > Erase all content and settings

for android Go to Apps > Settings > Backup and reset > Factory data reset > Reset Device > Erase Everything

Before you begin Factory reset if want to back up your device to save your content # /photos/videos..

HI @LoveNature

I don't think this is true.

The problem lies on the number-name lookup service as I mentioned earlier

https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Get-Support/call-display/m-p/947583/highlight/true#M6...

It has nothing to do with OP's device

HI@BarbO   DO NOT factory reset your phone.  It won't solve your problem

Morning @BarbO ,

Go to the post for the solution you choose and click the down arrow at the top right of it.

After that, you will see the below menu. Choose "Not the Solution".

@BarbO- The problem has nothing to do with your phone. It's an external database that when a call comes in (or you call someone who uses this service), the external service examines the number and sees that it "belongs" to someone and provides that information to the recipient. But this is where it goes wrong. If it's not updated in their system then this happens.

You could opt to turn off the option in your phone if you like.

Please do not do any resets.

No, I did not take over the acct/SIM.  It was a new SIM when I first set up my new cell phone, but I took a number that was attached to someone else's Rogers account previously.

I've submitted a request to Hiya.  I'll see if this fixes my problem.

@BarbO

I may be totally in left field here, but when you acquired the device, did you also take over the account/SIM that was attached to it, and thus, the phone number?

That would explain why people you call may have the number and name previously registered in their contacts as the phone is just changing users.

you mean to remove your sim card slot @BarbO ?

How 'bout a video: https://www.google.com/search?q=how+to+remove+sim+card+from+samsung+galaxy+a11&oq=how+to+remove+sim+...

I have a public mobile sim card (dual - large/small chip? yes)

Are you saying the Rogers number is showing in your phone Settings > About Phone > Phone number ?

Is this A11 the dual SIM version?

Can you open the sim slot and see if the Rogers SIM card is still inside? If so, remove it.

Ensure your public mobile SIM card is in securely while you are in there.

@BarbO   check if your friend subscribed any Caller ID/Block service like TrueCaller or using a new Samsung phone which has Hiya enabled.  If that is the case, it is the name lookup service he/she is using have a wrong entry on the database.   PM only pass the number and no name info sent.  So, it must be those name service or local contact that give out the wrong name info, not a thing with PM

I have not done any sim-swaps since activation edit:  purchased PM Sim card when I ported from Rogers.  The SIM has not been changed since setting up service with PM

@BarbO

I see above you said you had this number for a year. You should not have to change your number. So, this is a 'new to you phone' ?

I believe this is something connected to the device. Can you try your SIM card into another phone to see if the same happens? This would rule out a device issue.

What does it show under:

Settings > About Phone > Phone number will sometimes display the SIM card's temporary number, or show 'Unknown number' instead of the correct information.

Is it the phone number you expect?

Did you do any sim-swaps since your activation, by any chance?

Thx for your reply.  My phone is an android, Samsung Galaxy A11.  On another note, when I call my own number (to change my password for vm), the company that used my number previously is displayed.  So,this tells me that somewhere, something wasn't updated when I took the number.

@BarbO - you have been a community member for some time. How long ago did you activate this account/phone number?

What do you mean by "the company that used my number previously is displayed."

Did you recently port in a phone number to Public, then change your number in your My Account?

BarbO
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

No.  They don't know the former owner.  I'm thinking the carrier database somewhere hasn't been updated.

BarbO
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

I've had the same number for a year and I really don't want to change it.  ty

Not an Iphone.  I have an android.  Samsung Galaxy A11.  ty

@BarbO - You are still having issues, right? I think you choose a solution in error; it happens. It is pretty easy to do actually.

You can remove the solution by clicking the down arrow at the top right.

@hTideGnow   Samsung uses Hiya as the provider.  I think you meant this:

ttps://www.systemlifeline.com/2021/05/18/caller-id-name-not-displaying-accurate-data-on-samsung-phones/

@BarbO   if you friend has a Samsung, he can submit a request to Hiya to correct the name here:

@BarbO

If it is a cell number, yes but scammers can spoof a number.

If it is a landline, yes but no if it unless it is unlisted.

Nice re-direction 🙂 and Yes, I believe so @LoveNature .  Throwing it out there.

I also know someone who, when I try to duo them on android that their number shows on my phone as a totally different number.

@BarbO what model of phone do you have? You can check what number is set in your calling app settings.

Hi @LoveNature  OP said Called someone, how is that iMesaage??

Hi @BarbO , PM only sends phone number over and not the name.  The reason your friend saw the old owner name because he is using some number and name lookup service, either he installed something or the phone brand comes with it.  Samsung provides that for free with some service like that too
