Zero 5G in Metro Vancouver

CassidyTheCivet

Port Moody, Coquitlam, and Burnaby frequenter here. There is literally zero 5G in these areas and it's driving me crazy. This is WHY I switched plans. But when I use an American AT&T SIM card, it gets the 5G just fine. So it does exist here, is Public just not paying for access? Incredibly annoyed.

Gonna cap this by saying I attempted to force the firmware update, ended up corrupting my OS, and had to go with my tail between my legs to the mobile clinic so they could factory reset my now 5 year old phone. Lost years worth of voice notes (as a songwriter that smarts), and still no 5G. So I have officially moved over to Freedom cause I am in no mood (or financial situation) to justify upgrading my phone. But hey, now I actually have 5G in Canada for the first time since I got this phone!

Thanks for the help guys, see you on the flipside! 🤙

oh.. S20

The 5G on the whole S20 line has it own trouble with Public Mobile and Koodo, here is the story:

I'm currently using an S20 FE, which works just fine with the American 5G SIM and networks. Not sure why it's failing to get 5G here. My phone is mostly on 4G/LTE lately, but It can be slow.

BC is Telus base and they have great 5G coverage.  What phone do you have?what network mode you are using? You tried Resetting Network Settings? You tried your sim in another phone?

No 5G connectivity issues for me whenever I am in the Vancouver area — that said, my iPhone 15 Pro Max is generally set to LTE for improved battery life

That is strange because i travel to those locations with no issues with PM 5G plan.

BTW, I also get 5G with my TextNow SIM on T-Mobile network while in the USA.

It's possible AT&T is roaming on a different network. But this sounds like it may be a phone compatibility issue. In order to use 5G you need to be using a supported phone with the correct software version installed. If for example you have an iPhone, it may need to be updated to the latest software to enable Public Mobile 5G.

hi @CassidyTheCivet

is 4G or LTE working well?  honest, you should leave it as Automatic and if the phone choose 4G or LTE, there is nothing wrong to use it, the speed would be as fast as 5G

and what phone do you have?
