Would be PM customer needs help

deepg82

I'm planning on switching to PM but I have a few questions. I would like to keep my current number so how much before my current contract expires should I activate with PM? Also, does PM charge (and how much) for incoming texts if you don't choose the unlimited text option? Lastly, can you upgrage to another plan at the end of your billing cycle? (ie. add unlimited text or data)

Thanks

@deepg82 and as @Rockdaddy22 rightly pointed, text plans are 'free' if you subscribe to any of the data plan.

if you select the data plan then the text plan gets discounted.

only when you select 'no data' plan then the cost of text plan gets added.

so its a no brainer to add text plan if you are even subscribing to the basic 3gb plan.

Hi @deepg82

You will not get any text messages if you do no thave the global text plan activated.

I guess iPhone users also face this problem since iMessage requires a text message to be sent from the phone for it to get activated.

But for Whatsapp I think they might have an option of calling a number and activating it. I vaguely remember something like that. Not sure though.

I think you will need texting. With PM's pricing model, sometimes adding text works out to be the same price as a plan without texting. You get the best deals with talk/text/data

Thanks for all the help! All my questions were answered!

One more question arose:

If I understand corrrectly, I won't be able to send/receive text messeges if I don't get the global text option. If so, how would I set up WhatsApp and other apps? If I remember correctly, WhatsApp texts a code that you need to enter to setup an account as do some other apps.

Thanks

Hi @deepg82

Porting to PM would also depend on the operator you are currently with ?

I believe with Koodo and one another operator it might take a little longer since you have to first port to a new number and then to your existing number.

For incoming text, the global texting plan has to be active. So its either no text or global texting option.

You can change/upgade your plan when you renew it. If you do it midway you will lose the prepaid amount for existing plan.

Lastly, be rest assured about PM's call and data coverage. Its absolutely great. Great quality of call and LTE coverage.

To add a bit to Troy's post:

- after your receive your PM sim allow 1 week to transfer your number in case there is a glitch

- if the transfer is not complete within 2 hours notify the Community

- if you change plan mid cycle there is NO credit for unused days

- you cannot have long distance add-on without a calling plan

Hello, welcome to Public Mobile Community.

You will need to keep your current account active in order to port in your number. It takes between few minutes to few hours if it goes without any problems.

If you don't choose text, unfortunately, there is no add-on or anything to receive text.

Yes, you can upgrade to another plan right away or on the day of renewal.

1. You're the only who will know on how much contract left you have with your current provider. Try calling or checking your account online to see how much balance left. (if I understand your question correctly)

2. With the new plans, there's only one option for messaging and that is global texting.

3. Yeah, you can change your plan before the end of your billing cycle. You can do the change during your 30 or 90 days plan and it will automatically change after 30 or 90 days.
