Why does public mobile want us to switch to koodo?

Hi I've been searching the discussions but haven't really found an answer to my question. I had a friend tell me that there's a tab for koodo you have to pay for if you move over to koodo. What are tabs? Is it worth it? Will the new koodo plan, 40$ / 6GB be locked in forever?

It seems PM is basically in transition mode and wants to be a 3g only data provider.

There are several threads on this topic. But in realty no one really knows what the future is going to be.

You do not need to get a tab if you join koodo. Tabs are a loan to buy a phone which you pay back over 2 years

I'm just also skeptical because I feel like they're trying to force us to go to koodo since they were going to end our plan am move us to koodo.
