Why does my data run out so fast?

I am less than 1 week into my new billing cycle and I got a 'you've used 95% of your data notice'. Which is crazy. I go back to my profile online and says I've used just over 600mb - which is still crazy and inconsistent with my habits. 

 

So I look into the usage tracker and manually tally up all the data usage since the first day of my new plan - ~146mb.

 

So what gives? I had my data shut down last cycle (now I'm extra skeptical it was warranted) which meant that I was missing texts without realizing when I'm not connected to wifi. Its not worth the money for me to add on data and these warning texts send me in a panic when I know my usage is reasonable. 

 

How do I get this resolved? I've gone through my settings to keep everything off data, but it feels like these issues just arose out of the blue these last couple months. Anyone else having the same issues? I'm frustrated.

some notes:

1. If/when you switch to a new device, sometimes things like Apple Music and other stuff might be set to download automatically in the background. Just be mindful there are services that just consumes data without you knowing. that happened to me in the past... it's scary. Just make sure to disable download from cellular for those services.

2. Backup (i.e. iCloud backup) that could also take some data, upload and download, on new devices.

In short, any major changes to your habits will always come with high data usage in the short term... just be mindful of this. Hope this helps.

@Hanada   You can ask customer support, open a ticket at the chat icon bottom right of this page.  There have been one or two other people who have said they didn't think their data tally was right but I've never had that problem (fingers crossed!)

Good thought, but no, not a data notification from my phone.  The text says 'Public Mobile here. You've used 95% of the data included in your service...'

@Hanada   Just to rule something out, do you have a data limit set on your phone?  Are these notices pop-ups from the phone, or texts/emails from Public Mobile?   To answer your question, no I'm not having the same issues, the PM tally has so far been accurate for me.
