Wanting to change my service to a new phone

I am seriously thinking of getting a new phone and would like to know how to switch my service over to a new phone.  Also, would I have to get a new SIM card?  Any help on this would be greatly appreciated.  I'm not much of a phone techie.  Thank you in advance.

I did purchase a new phone, the Samsung Galaxy A5 (2017).  I purchased it at my local Telus retailer and the young lady associate was very professional, knowledgeable and helpful, and she switched my contacts and data from the old phone to the new phone quickly and seamlessly.  My A5 works great.  It's nice to no longer have the issues that the Alcatel was giving me.  Thank you to everyone here in the 'Community' for your advice and assistance.

@mimmowrote:

hi you would just take the sim out of youe existing phone and pop it into your new phone. then set up the apn settings.  it should be that easy.

Shouldn't even have to do that. Unless the phone itself is retarded, or more like whatever carrier firmware might be on the phone. Then again that is one advantage to having a truly unlocked phone that doesn't have any carrier firmware or bloat.

I just picked up on of the $139 Moto G5's and all I had to do was put my SIM in from the old phone (which was a Windows phone at that), and good to go.

most newer phones have micro or nano sims.  most public mobile sims are tripple punch you you just select the size you need.  going from bigger to smaller is not ususally a problem going bigger requires you to buy a new sim or go to a store and and ask for an old sim that has been punched out.  but you are probably in the first group.

@airzonephoto Don't worry, it is really simple. If the new phone sim size is the same, you can use your current sim on your new phone. If the new phone sim size is smaller or bigger and you don't have the adapter, you can simply get a new sim from Walmart/wow mobile/k-mobile and change your sim number from your self-serve account.

You can slip your SIM card into your new phone and are good to go.

Depending on your SIM card / the time you got it, in other words if it's not a 3-in-1 card, you might need to get a new SIM if it's a different size.

Make sure that your new phone has the appropriate bands to work with PM: https://productioncommunity.publicmobile.ca/t5/Discussions/LTE-network-fundamentals/m-p/198799/highl...(Relevant if you order from overseas.)
