Hello

i am planning atrip to Us for 10 days

Public mobile have an Addon for Voice US Roaming - Unlimited Talk (10-day) - $8.00

I have Samsung S20 which do support all latest newtorks..4g ,5g etc.the problem is this the Usa network discontinuing 3g network service.(see below)

I have 1 gb  data plan with  Voice plan in Canada, can i do Voice only roaming in USA?

I dont want to do use data in USA, will my Voice work with no data in usa?

Have anyone experienced any of this ?

Important: As of February 22nd, 2022, United States (U.S.) carriers have started turning down certain 3G/HSPA networks. As a result, customers using U.S. roaming add-ons will be impacted by differences in coverage or service quality (including 9-1-1 calls) when roaming in the U.S. Customers may also experience changes to services such as welcome messages, voicemail notifications, usage notifications for voice, notifications when trying to make an international call, interactive voice responses (IVR), as well as the ability to set up voicemail while in the U.S. This shutdown will not impact your service in Canada.

@softech yes that is what I have heard, and that is how I presented it to the Jade.  Hoping she checks in with the CSA's to hear where they got that info

@softech- It's all rumour/innuendo/interpretation until an official announcement is posted. In these cases for both 2G and volte.

Adding - or when someone tests and verifies it.

@MrSpock   PM can surely do better, but at least they were doing better than Fido prepaid.  Fido Prepaid simply not offer US roaming since beginning of the year

and rumours say they will resolve this with VoLTE before the end of Sept.  Let's hope this is true

@softech., in our recent Oracle Connect we had last week the US roaming was brought up and we were told that T~Mobile 2G is what PM would use.  When I mentioned that there was a rumour that a CSA said it that VoLTE would be running by end of September they were both (PM staffers) surprised and said they have no information of that happening.

@ShawnC13   Thanks for confirming. I guess rumour is rumour

But it was said by a CS agent to another member, according to that member.  Oh well.  will keep waiting then  🙂

@softech Nevertheless I don’t recommend it there are too many issues in the last few weeks it’s about time Publix stood up to the plate and fixed the issue

@MrSpock   from what we understand, the 3G shutdown process has started but not "all 3G has been shut down in the states".  It takes time and It will eventually but some area still have 3G now.  It was a not a hard shutdown

@Think Hi I would not recommend the ten-day talk and text US add-on since all 3G has been shut down in the states it is highly unlikely you will get a very good signal If any at all I would recommend a travel Sim or a local Sim

@Think

At the moment, PM still use 3G to transmit voice.  It is not a problem with us in Canada but US has started the process to turn off 3G network

The 3G shutdown has started for AT&T since Feb and for T-Mobile since July 1.  Some area still have 3G as it takes time for them to shutting them down.  So, it's really YMMV.

You will likely get better success with connecting to T-Mobile as they just started the shutting down of 3G on July 1.  Also, you can try to use 2G Only on T-Mobile and voice could still work that way

If you need voice as a MUST, I suggest you to buy Mobile Data roaming, which will work on LTE without problem. Then setup a VoIP app like TextNow or Fongo and try to make and receive voice calls and text with the VoIP App
