1) I'm following the instructions to set up call forwarding on https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/bc/get-help/articles/call-forwarding
2) I have a Public Mobile unlimited Canada-wide minutes plan.
3) From the voicemail main menu, keying in this sequence results in a "mailbox number invalid" error message: *21* ten-digit-phone-number #
4) The ten-digit number I used in #3 is a valid Canadian number.
5) I'm guessing my Public Mobile service is incorrectly set up, and requires intervention by the company.

Your suggestion worked -- thanks very much, z10user4.
My failed attempt to use the voicemail menu for call forwarding came from the Public Mobile instructions page (https://www.publicmobile.ca/en/bc/get-help/articles/call-forwarding): "To set up an extended absence greeting, dial into your voicemail. From the main menu, follow the arrows in the below visual."

@vilnius : Yeah I'm not sure what you mean by "from the voicemail main menu". You "dial" those codes from your dialer like you're dialing a phone.
Or indeed you can do this in the dialer settings itself.

Thanks for your fast reply.
I believe you're referring to device-level call forwarding.
I'm trying to use network-level call forwarding.

@vilnius Try doing it directly from your phone. For iPhones it's Settings >> Phone >> Call Forwarding: . Must be something similar for Android.
