Unable to receive text message from Norway

KPrice
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Hello

I have an account which accesses my profile with the Norwegian pension dept.site.

To access this, I logon and then they send me a text message with a verification code which I use to access their site. I have had no problems until now. I am not receiving any text messages. I contacted them and explained that I have not made any changes. I got the email reply below. Can anyone explain what it means, and what I can do to fix the problem?

Regards  - Kevin

Hi

We have not done any change in your phonenumber. If you have got the sms before you have to contact your operator and ask if they have done a change so that you can't get sms from alphanumeric numbers. Sms from us is sent from digdir.

I have a Samsung Galaxy J7 Prime phone so it uses the message app that comes with the phone. No updates that I'm aware of.

Yeah it's just a very short message with a PIN code and it has to be sent via SMS. The alternative is that they send me a letter with a list of PIN codes, which I can then use to type in.

What messaging app are you using?  Was there a recent app update that might have broke something?

Yeah it's just a very short message with a PIN code and it has to be sent via SMS. The alternative is that they send me a letter with a list of PIN codes, which I can then use to type in.

@KPrice   you should be able to receive friend's text from Norway without issue.. but let us know.

The DND is turned off. I'm going to ask one of my friends there to send me a text message and see if that works.

Thanks to everyone for their help. It is much appreciated!!

Thanks for the advice. I don't think that I blocked them, but I'll check my blocked numbers. What does DND mean?

Most phones have DND....Do Not Disturb settings.

Ie

no calls accepted between selected  hours

no call accepted if not in your contacts list

etc.

@KPrice

A few more things to try:

- If you know the shortcode from which the sms used to be sent, try texting "help" or "subscribe" to see if you get a response.

- Try clearing messaging app cache on your phone.

- Try your SIM card in another phone and see what happens

Since I receive local text messages ok, there must have been a change either on their system or at this end regarding how international SMS is handled.

@KPrice wrote:

Yeah, I tried that but it didn't help. Thanks though  🙂

I would assume it is kind of a Shortcode text?  These kind of system generated international text is never reliable.  If you have a choice to change to use Authenticator app, I suggest you to do so.

If you have no choice but to use SMS, you might want to try to do a change contact number  in the Norway pension site. and enter the same phone number.    Make sure you pick +1 Canada from the country code (+1 USA , although it is also country code 1 , it might not work)

@KPrice

DND is Do Not Disturb settings.

Edit...

You might want to double check your APN settings in your phone. They may have changed by accident some how.

Did you inadvertently block the number or have you changed your DND settings?
