You will need to connect to T-Mobile network to work but where were you in the USA?
If you are back in Canada, contact a CS_Agent for a refund.

which state and city you were at?
did it connect to T-Mobile?
since you are back here already, I guess you can open ticket with PM support and ask them for a refund
