Transfer from Koodo

Bill123
Good Citizen / Bon Citoyen

Hello,

I recently have switched from Koodo, my SIM card was in a home phone line using a SIM card. Koodo had sent my a text message confirming if I was making the switch. I could not reply to the text message, now the SIM card is locked on Koodo's end. I have called them and they have said they've unlocked the SIM card and they are aware of the transfer. They said I need to contact Public Mobile now to complete the transfer. The new PM SIM card still says unknown, and the other Koodo SIM card (now in an old iPhone) says locked still.

Thanks,

Bill

 @darlicious : I think it gave me 3 tries before this message will self destruct. I didn't test it.

@Anonymous

Almost like it needs a PUK code or something along those lines.

 @computergeek541 : Right. Fine. This is what we're talking about. Some kind of lock somewhere - you say the account - that stops me using the SIM (or as you say, account) in another device.

Edit: lol I see your edit. 🙂

 @computergeek541 : I tried 0000 and 1234. Neither worked when I inserted the Telus Mobility Wireless Home Phone SIM into my Blackberry Z30. My PM SIM works fine in the BB and the WHP device. I am quite firm in believing that I did not set up any SIM lock in it.

That's because it's a WHP.  They offer a low price and in return, it's not supposed to be portable/mobile.  The restriction is at the account level.

Edit: I see now that darlicious may have been talking about WHP.  That's the problem with the broken quote function (that Public Mobile still hasn't fixed).

Lol....apparently all NNTRISIM means is its a tri-sim card. But I meant a telus phone bought from them either thru a contract or a prepaid phone that takes a standard sized sim card like my flip phone. I get the impression that maybe telus sim card locks their sim cards to the device. ie the default is 1234 but they may require you to phone to get the specific code for your sim card. Here's a new unused sim card and my old telus sim card for my flip phone.

Telus Mobility does not restrict customers from only using a SIM card in a specific device.  The SIM cards PIN also doesn't get changed remotely and the code is always 1234 unless someone manually changes it.  For a phone to ask for a SIM card's PIN, that setting needs to be enabled by the user.

 @CountyDownIeUk : It is a conventional modern SIM. Your PM SIM is tri-cut. Standard, micro, nano. This device is standard.

For terminology see Wikipedia and scroll down to Developments. And at the end of the next part it says: The UICC is still colloquially called a SIM card.

Here is the info about a ZTE that does NOT take a conventional SIM.

 @darlicious : Define Telus phone? I put the WHP SIM into my old Blackberry Z30. It didn't enjoy the experience. Something about a lock. I don't have SIM security on the phone. So I didn't know what to do. Tried one or two codes and didn't want to lock things out so gave up. I seem to think will13am had some answer a while ago but I didn't bother pursuing it.

Here's a pic of the SIM. I don't know what NTTRISIM means.

@Anonymous

Have you ever tried putting the telus WHP sim card into a telus phone that takes a standard size sim card? Just curious?

 @CountyDownIeUk : No. Telus Mobility. In an other-business arrangement it's effectively free. I also have Telus Optik internet and tv.

Mine is PM. And I aim to pay less than what I was paying for voip.ms. And me too Optik TV and internet. With a negotiated price.

Correct, same as mine.  Do you use a PM SIM card?

 @CountyDownIeUk : The Telus WHP SIM seems to be locked somehow. The device can take any SIM (well...as far as I know). That any SIM can be moved around as normal. It's just that WHP SIM can't seem to be put in any other device.

Or so it seems to me.

If that makes any sense at all 🙂

Yes makes sense.  Before I bought the ZTE I did some checking and “some” take a non conventional size SIM ...not standard, micro or Nano...... which makes more sense.

@Anonymous I didn't even think about doing that lol. Would be something...

So I just bought a 3rd plan and put the SIM in a ZTE WF721 (x-Telus) I am going to have a problem if I move the SIM into an unlocked phone?

 @Bill123 : And yet the PM SIM will work fine in the WHP device. It also works fine in the SmartHub device. But I think they limit the SIM to a device somehow so that you can't use it in a different device.

Yes, the SIM in the iPhone (from the home phone) says locked. Must be locked to the device like you said because Koodo says it's unlocked on their end

 @Bill123 : Wait...you said you put the Koodo WHP SIM into an iphone...did it seem to work? When I tried the Telus WHP SIM in a phone it seemed to be somehow device locked. Or maybe SIM locked. Can't remember now.

Okay, that's great to hear! Thank you 🙂

 @Bill123 : Once the CSA's got what they needed (IMEI), my port from the SmartHub was almost instant after they said to reboot. It's all in the family so it should be easy.

Okay, I tried porting yesterday but nothing has changed so far. Hopefully the ticket resolves the issue

@Bill123

Thank you. I just wanted to confirm that there is not a sim provisioning issue. The unknown relates to the port failure initially. That should update once the koodo number is released to pm.

Yes, the plan is the $25 one on PM.

In the settings, I have a Samsung A12.

@Bill123 wrote:

Yes, the PM SIM is now call/text but on the phone is says "unknown" in the settings.

what you meant by "call/text"?  Able to make outgoing calls and text?

and where it is showing "Unknown"?
