I will be returning to NL once again this summer for three months.  Last year I used Public Mobile and it worked very well.  We will be crossing the border into Canada on June 25th.

I am doing the "Build your own plan" exactly as I did last year.  It will be a 90 day plan, Canada wide and to the US, no text and no data.  Price comes to $120.00 plus applicable taxes.

Last year I could  make calls to the US and recieve calls as well from the US.

I am concerned over the wording " Canada - wide and to the US" under the Talk column.

Will I be able to receive calls from the US ( as I did last summer ) or only make calls to the US?

Thank you

I got signed up .  Used a different e-mail address to open a new account.  I guess I now have two accounts! LOL

I did get the plan with 90 days, all-Canada plus US, unlimited International text and 1.5 GB of use over the 90 days.  Immediately upon turning the phone on I started getting messages telling me I did not have service in te US.  Probably about ten of them.  I guess my APN settings are OK as they are being that I used PM last year when in NL.  I hve to check and see if I need to do anything with the APN because I now have text and Data.

Am I supposed to do something as the thread starter with the box that says "Accept as solution"?

Thanks again for everyones help.

Leaving at 0600. Will be in NS around 2100 with a working phone. ( I hope )

SRlawren,

Thanks, I have checked out your link.  I am trying to comprehend what it is saying.  Three college degrees and as an old dog I just cannot learn new trick when it comes to the computer / internet stuff.

I tried opening a new account using a second e-mail address I have.  Something went wrong and the PM system has locked me out.  It states the SIM # I have is open in another window and I must wait 50 minutes to trying again to activate it.

I loved my PM last year but getting it up and running sure has been a challenge.  Same level of difficulty was experienced last year.  Oh, well  Try, Try, Try and Try again! LOL

Never heard of the wait time. May be give it a try using incognito/private browsing mode or try another browser?

@MBNavion if you happen to use gmail, you could use the "." or "+" trick to create a unique second email for registration without having to sign up for any other email accounts.  http://www.thewindowsclub.com/gmail-address-tricks

@MBNavion

You would need to create a new account with new email (you may update to your old email after account created).

You may use your US credit card as payment: Accepted payments for activating your SIM card

DL00,

Thank you.  I was looking in the bundle area because I saw at the end of your original post the wrote " Gotta love the bundle!"

If I can figure out a way to get the SIM activated I will use the plan you suggest.

OK, Next problem.

I have a new SIM card that I bought while in Canada last year.  I bought it because that I knew my plan would expire and my account would be suspended after 90 days .

So, now I am trying to activate my new SIM card.

It appears as though I can still access my account from last year even though more than 90 days have passed.  I have tried to activate the new SIM card by following the directions for a new account.  It will not let me do it because my e-mail is already applied to my old account.

If I try to activate it through my old account  it rejects my credit card.

Also I see someplace that PM states that payment can be made with Canadian registered

credit cards.  Last year I paid with my credit card that is from the US.

Anyone have any suggestions on how I can get my new SIM working?

PM worked very well for me last year and I am pleased with what it did for me.  However, perhaps it is not as good an option for me as I thought.  My plan is to do this every year for three months beginning around Canada Day for 90 days or slightly more.

Thanks

Thank you to all who replied.

Yes, I will be calling back to the US from NL.  Also we do not text very often and have WiFi available at our cottage in NL.  Thus, my choice for "All-Canada and the US voice without the texting option and without the data option.

I am letting my US based NET 10 plan lapse while in Canada and will be looking for something new to use in the US upon return.  90 days of PM will leave me two or three days short of service while enroute home  from Canada to the US.  I will buy an additional 30 days of service after the initial 90 days and at that time can add 10 days of US roaming to the plan.  This will allow me to use the PM plan in the US while I search for a new plan to replace the NET10 that I let expire.

DL00, I do not see a bundle that allows calling from Canada to the US.  The only bundle that would add up to $105.00 is the $35.00 for 30 days which has 1.0 GB data and Canada wide calling and international texting.  I have no objection to having texting and data. It would be nice to have though I would use it infrequently.  The problem with that plan is it does not allow voice calls to the US.

Thank's again to all who supplied information.

@mimmo while true, that's not what @MBNavion was asking.

They are asking: while they are in Canada, can they receive calls from the USA.  @MBNavion please note that @will13am has given you the correct answer--you will be able to receive calls from anywhere as long as you don't choose "no talk".  But yes assuming you will be calling the US quite a bit (keeping in touch with friends and family back home, the talk option you are asking about is a good choice.

@MBNavion, you should have no problems receiving calls from anywhere in the world.  The calling party is the one that pays for the long distance and so there is no difference which calling feature is in the plan when it comes to receiving calls.  Now, it does matter for outgoing calls of course.  To call the US, the Canada+US calling feature is required.  Alternatively, a long distance add-on can be used in conjunction with either province wide or Canada wide calling.  As someone using this service for a few months, it won't really make much difference either way.

I don't know the answer to your question but it's actually cheaper to get international texting and the smallest amount of data (1.5 GB for 90 days). The total comes to $105 rather than $120.

Gotta love the bundle!
