The plans that public mobile saved you from!

Hey ya'll,

Just think it would be interesting to see what kind of mobile situation everyone was in before they came here.

For a long time I was with Virgin, but then with my job, I found out I get a corporate discount with rogers! Well golly gee, I do that for a year thinking 5Gbs of data and unlimited talk and text for around 90 dollars is pretty fine all things considered.

HA HA HA. With Virgin, unlimited texting meant internatonal. It didn't mean that with Rogers. Do you think they'd send me a 'Heads up you're texting out of the country and it's not in your plan and it's 70 cents a text message!' No, instead they sent me a thousand dollar phone bill. $1000. I was in shock/panic and I managed to get it down to 800 but seriously. They saw this activity and we're like 'yeah no big deal'. My phone wasn't even worth that. Good god.

So my mom actually found PM and turned me onto it. So I do the dancey dance with Rogers telling them I need to unlock my phone, they ask me why, they direct me to customer service and loyalty and such. They offer me 7gigs a month for 70 bucks. Which I mean is PRETTY decent. (I live more north where there are really no competitors against the big 3). But then I learn as soon I'm not with with the company I'm with now (we're switching providers) will lose my corporate discount.

They try to talk me into staying, saying that they wouldn't charge me the full amount of the plan after my discount was gone, but it was still going to go up!

So now I have the 4Gb for 40 and I just finished my first 3 months on the 16 and just barely used half of my data.

Thaaaank goodness for public mobile!

Went from $50 5Gb corp plan that was going to increase to $59 to the 12gb promo plan.

With all the rewards, autopay, community, and referral, I do not regret the switch at all.

I think the carrying over of everything over 3 months is what is what gets everyone. They should be like gift cards.. never expire.

I came from PC Mobile Prepaid - I only had a text & call plan.  When wanting to upgrade to a monthly plan and new phone, no carry-over of funds as the prepaid and monthly are separate companies!! They had a "pay for what you use" data plan that wasn't comparable to Public Mobile.  Happy to be here.

I came from Rogers as well.  Wife and I were on a share+ plan, paying about $160+tax a month for 7GB shared. With my community rewards, referral rewards and autopay, combined we're now paying $191+tax for *90 days*, or about $64/month, for more data.

Yeah ,It is best cellphone service in canada so far. loving it.

I left big bad red rogers and now save almost  $35 a month.  Half of what i used to spend! gotta love it and the service that PM provides.  Awesome service all around!

During the promo I migrated 6 family members over, mostly from Koodo. Thing is though - some were after more data, others after more talk time. People in the trades talk a lot while on the job site. This plan fit both. Personally, I am a light user, but when you add in all of the self referrals, this works out to be cheaper than many other 'entry' plans, and now I am not conerned about using data/mins.

Rogers for 4-5 years in Toronto. nation wide calling+txt, 500mb (yes MB) of data. $60+tax

Now I pay half for 8x the data, and not worried about nation wide as it was only for parents; whatsapp is for that or long distance minutes for emerg.

oh so you weren't even in the states sorry I thought you were roaming in the states.  Ya they don't have international texting.

Well, I didn't know the number I was texting was American and I understand that it is on me to know, but they warn you if you go over in data.. why not text message surcharges? I know other companies do it 😞

Well what are moms for...  Thank goodness for mom, followed by Public Mobile.  It's great story that unfortunately plays out all too often.  Rogers is undeniably pricey compared to Public Mobile.  I cannot fault them for charging a la carte for items not included in the base plan.  The responsibility lies with the customer in knowing what it costs for everything.  If in doubt, ask the service provider.
